There is some controversy among scientists about the cleanliness of dog saliva vs. human saliva. I personally think dog saliva is cleaner in the sense that the saliva in dogs does not actually aid in digestion. Its saliva is mainly for a way for the dog to sweat. The saliva is kind of thick and the properties of the saliva is said to have anti-bacterial properties.

A dog drools and washes away bacteria. Cats do not drool at all (unless something is wrong) which is why their mouths are worse than a human. Just as 4 out of 5 dentist suggest trident. As you chew gum you salivate and wash away food particlea and bacteria.

In a way it is but in other ways it isn't. Dogs saliva responds differently to bacteria than human saliva does.

Apparently so, but I still find it so hard to believe. People who let their dogs lick them on their mouths (or anywhere for that matter) absolutely repulse me!

Well, they don't carry human cold viruses.
(Dogs do get colds, but they are not the same viruses that infect humans, and vice versa)
