marriage applications are voluminous and some parts can be complicated. It is possible to do it on your own, but it is more likely than not that you will run into snags. Every attorney charges differently. I would ask three or four what they charge for a marriage application. You can also use a non-profit they will charge less than most attorneys and generally do a good job. Catholic Charities has them all over the country.

Most people who apply, run into problems because they are ignorant of the specific things they must do to make sure their applications are correct. Any mistakes result in the process starting over. This can cause delays that last several years. You can avoid this by hiring an experienced immigration attorney. He will make sure you do everything correctly, the first time. Expect to pay him at least a couple thousand dollars for his time and effort.
