Very dangerous in large amounts. A small amount, maybe just a square, now and again won't hurt. It's better to give too little than too much. My dogs love chocolate and they always share with me when I have some and so far no ill effects. Dark chocolate is VERY VERY dangerous for dogs. Don't even think about giving that as a treat!

Yes, human chocolate is poisonous to dogs. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is a substance related to caffeine. It can have effects on the heart, brain and digestive system. Dark chocolate is the most poisonous but milk chocolate can still can serious problems or even death if eaten. If you're wanting to give your dog some sort of chocolate I'd stick to dog chocolate as this does not contain theobromine.

Yes. Very much so. It can be fatal in large doses and cause your dog to be poorly in small cases. There is a chemical in the choc that doesn't digest and just slowly builds up over time, and can lead to poisoning. If you want to give your dog chocolate, but the special dogy chocs that are free from any dangerous or harmful chemicals..and it tastes just as good too!

Will a piece of milk chocolate kill an average sized dog? No.

But it could very well upset his stomach, give him loose stools and make him need to go "potty" more often...so it isn't a good treat for him.

Plus, why feed him something in low doses which you know is toxic in high doses? Feed him treats that are healthy---he isn't human and chocolate doesn't mean the same thing to him as it does to us.

Why would you want to feed chocolate to your dog? Chocolate isn't meant for dogs. In fact most of what we feed dogs isn't meant for dogs, including crap like Science Diet and Alpo. Buy some treats that are made for dogs and buy some dog food that isn't loaded down with rotten chicken intestines (by-products). Show some love for your pet or don't have a pet.

Yes because there are chemicals in chocolate that in high doses are actually harmful to the liver or kidneys of dogs (can't remember which - might be both). The chocolate doggy treats are ok though because it doesn't contain these chemicals.
