What does it matter really? What if it was only 20,000? Is that too many? How about 25,000? At what number do we start to think "the Iraqis aren't benefiting from this war? How many civialian deaths is acceptable?

But liberals will say that number is way low. The like 6 million dying at the hands of Bush. Than give the terrorist the big pass.

Depends on what you consider a civilian... if by civilian you mean a individual not in the military with a bomb strapped to their chest or trying to run through military checkpoints then it may be true..

If you add the number killed by suicide bombers and Iraqi death squads and also the number of American civilians beheaded then probably..

Those numbers are really suspicious. Considering that the UN is doing nothing in Iraq they have no way to independently collect data. Thus they would have to provide a strong argument as to why they numbers are anything other than something they simply made up.

More innocents are killed by indiscriminate car bombs and IEDs set by insurgents than are killed by American soldiers. Mistakes happen, but the difference is the vast majority of deaths at the hands of Americans are accidental or the direct result of insurgents using them as human shields while the insurgents target civilians to induce terror (thus the label terrorist).

It could be true, but about 860,000 civilians were born in 2006 with about 143,000 total deaths.

To make things more interesting, the death rate in Iraq was 5.3 per 1,000. In the U.S. it was 8.26 per 1,000. Iraq was safer than the U.S. in 2006. France is even more dangerous at 9.6 per 1,000. Germany was nearly twice as dangerous as Iraq at 10.62 per 1,000!

I'll take the Iraqi government's numbers over the UN's any day.

The UN hasn't earned my trust.

Isn't it ironic that the UN always release these reports.

They say that they want to preserve peace in the wrold, but they are hardly doing anything in Iraq.

Stop reporting and do something about this! Send peackeeping troops.

That number is grossly under reported!

150,000 is the more accurate number.

150,000 x 4 years = 600,000 Iraqi dead!
