As long as you are both under the understanding and actually come up with a date and not keep postponing it, then the time limit is not big deal. Just don't make it like 4-20 years down the road. Then you will start to make him think that you are not serious. I personally don't care. As long as I love the woman that I am engaged to, I am willing to wait until she is completely ready to walk down that aisle. Afterall, why rush? All good things come to those who wait.

The answer really depends on the what you consider long and the circumstances. Some people like myself have been engaged for a few years due to financial circumstances as well as trying to get school out of the way. I know a couple that have been engaged for 3 years because he is out on the frontlines for our country, he comes and goes and not enough time to plan, together as a couple. That is important you know? I do value it, because it gives you time to get to know the person even more under the pressure of planing your wedding. But, there are couples that have been engaged for years and years and just never get married, why? because they probably are living together and maybe just don't see the need to get married when it already feels like it. I think long engagements are good if they are less then 2.5 years anything more requires questioning.

Our engagement was long because we got engaged 3 months after we started dating, so we were still getting to know each other and we were engaged! My mom recommended that we wait a bit, so we saved our money for our dream wedding. We've been married over a year now and together nearly 4 years. For us, it worked out very well!

The only point in a long engagement is to save money for the wedding. As long as a date is set it is not stalling or procrastinating. Better to see that you have enough cash to tie the knot rather than get into debt in the process.

I wouldn't suggest getting married 2 days later, but excessivley long engagements don't work either. As with any relationship, it begins to settle into the routine of everyday living, the excitement wanes and the couple thinks, "why bother"?
If marriage is what you both want, then get married.

I doubt they value the long engagement. They might like it though because they are post-poning their capture. Free for a little longer.

No, I don't think so, nor do I think girls want a long engagement.

In many cases, they figure: "Why buy the cow when you're getting the milk for free?"
This, of course is because older values that worked aren't practiced any more, for the most part.
