My 15 year old son gets a mild case of acne on his shoulders. I think it is from sweating. What can I do for him, get him, to help him with this problem?

Buy toner (Any kind will do) and put it on his back nightly (or get him to do it) The toner will dry out the pores therefore no more acne. I do this for my boyfriend and he gets almost no acne anymore. But you have to be faithful with putting in on.

Many teenagers get it because of their hormones. However, sweating can be the cause too. It occurs on oily skin, so after he does some activity which causes him to sweat, he should take a shower and use plain soap, because bodywash often leaves the skin a bit oily, while soap dries it out, and acne thrives on oily skin. Someone here mentioned wearing only cotton fabrics - I agree...cotton allows the skin to breathe, whereas synthetic fabrics constrict air flow and may result in sweat glands getting clogged up, causing more acne. Tell him not to touch the acne, not to pop it, etc... so that no scars will be left, but if he does scratch them, etc....apply a bit of neosporin to help heal the scars without leaving a trace. There is also a body powder you can purchase and have him apply it on his back...it is to prevent sweat, so just dab it on his back, and it should help the acne.

There are dietary considerations to follow with acne that are very important. ... He needs to stay away from sugar and sweets as well as chocolate and soda and fried foods and cakes, cookies, refined flour etc.. ... He should be drinking lots of fresh water every day,.. and eating plenty of raw fruits and veggies (especially dark green leafy veggies such as raw spinach).

Have him take between 100,000 to 200,000 units of vitamin A&D from fish oil per day. ... He can break up that dosage into 3 sub doses over the course of a day. ....... This can work very well for helping to clear up acne,.. but he should not take this vitamin indefinately, as it is not a "water soluable" vitamin and it will build up in the liver over time. As a result he should stop taking it after 3 or 4 weeks of daily intake,.. and abstain for approximately one month before taking it again. .. This allows the A&D levels in the body to regulate.

He could also take a good B complex (triple the dosage recommended on the bottle), and Vitamin C (perhaps 500 mgs once every 3 hours). ................ Note: .. Be sure and only use "natural vitamins" and not synthetic vitamins. There is a big difference.

The advice you have already recieved here regarding the need to keep the skin clean, especially immediately after exercise,.. is important also.
As well,... if he can get natural sun exposure onto the effected areas for perhaps 30 minutes once a day,.. this is also very beneficial and healing for such a problem.

... I have also read that "Tea Tree Oil" applied directly to the skin can be very helpful towards eliminating acne.
Buy some tea tree oil from a health food store.
Gently massage the oil on your face at night and leave it on.
In the morning, wash your face with warm water.
Then mix 3-4 drops of tea tree oil with some warm water in the palm of your hand and massage into your face. .... Do this daily and the problem should be resolved in a matter of a few weeks.

You really dont need any acne medication for this. Just get him a back srubber thing and use regular soap, if its caused by sweating what is acne medication gonna do? Just tell him to use regular bodywash.

Proactiv Solution for body, but it may dry out the skin if it's naturally sensitive, but then he can use it every 2nd or 3rd day. Clinique products are good too, they have a whole acne section. Or wearing clothes that aren't too rough on the skin.

I'm a nurse. See a doctor to have it cleared up. I would try to take off the sweaty clothes right away after activity if you can and wash the sweat off your body. Also use the cream you get from the doctors office. Take care.
