Take him to a therapist. It could be a number of things. He could just be sensitive, he could have autism, mental illness, he could have been abused by his mentally ill mother, etc. In the meantime, just be patient. Good luck.

I'm having the same problem with my stepson, he is seeing someone and had to be placed on medication. The medication helps but when it wares out it's back to the same thing. I try to give him security and show him love, it helps a little.
My stepson is 6 and his 3 yr old brother calls him a little girl and cry baby and that just makes it even worst.
Good Luck

Yah yah, the first wife is always mentally ill.
5 is a whiney age. My brothers both cried all the time at that age. Just love him. I have an autistic child and he was nothing like that at 5.
Make sure this is not about a superiority trip over his mother.

It could possibly be ADD Attention Deficite Disorder (dont know how to spell it) It could also be his way of coping with losing his biological mother and he needs time, try and be sensitive as he is only 5. i know it is hard for you to constantly deal with it. Have yo talked with your partner? Naybe councelling if his mother is mentally ill it could be hereditry.
Goodluck sweetie xoxoxo

Love him, Love him, and Love him some more.
And call a therapist. Don't put the poor little guy on meds, though. Go to a therapist that the whole family can go to together. I have 3 step kids and it's never easy. {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}

Write down everything he dose for a few days of a week, I mean everything, then take him and what you wrote to a Doctor and go from there, it may be nothing to worry about but at least you will know.

It sounds like the poor little guy is depressed. Give him plenty of love and security. I would also find a counselor to work with him.

i also think some therapy might help
since you say he constantly needs to be redirected and cannot imagine
i think its also good to keep him engaged with kids his own age
whether it is in school or with friends
