I had a cockatiel who was just about 1 year old.. She was very sweet and was hand fed when little so she was very friendly. Saturday night she was fine (flying aorund, chirping, etc.. her normal activity. I was home all day Sunday and she was fine in the morning. At about 8 pm i walked out and found her hunched over in the front of the cage. I knew something was wrong.. I picked her up and she was jusrt looking at me... She kept closing her eyes and I would pet her to keep her awake. I wrapped her in a blanket to keep her warm and pet her to keep her calm but she died in my hands... I have no idea why. She had food and water and was fine just a couple hours earlier.. I'm so sad b/c she was a wonderful pet and i already miss her.. does anybody know why she oculd have died? I have heard if they catch a draft maybe? I'm so sad and I blame myself b/c i didn't know what to do to save her..

I'm so sorry about your cockateil. Don't blame yourself, it's not your fault. I just lost two of my cockateils not too long ago. It is very hard when you loose something you love so much. I'm sure you did the best you could to take care of your bird, but sometimes these things just happen. It's really hard to say why, they die, but believe me, there's nothing you could have done, to save her.

Cockatiels, like each and every parrot species can get aggressive and strengthen habit issues. i've got chanced on that the terrific approach to handle cockatiel aggressiveness is to not practice marvel or concern, do not jerk lower back, do not harass them, yet gently practice them who's boss. With my cockatiel I firmly say no while she tries to chew, and wrap my hand round her head very gently so she won't be able to circulate and has to confirm me. do not squeeze the fowl's head, and attitude from at the back of so which you're much less possibly to get bitten. Then I say no lower back. do not yell or replace into severe pitched. this might maximum possibly take a variety of of time and persistence. there is not any genuine assure the fowl's habit would be corrected, especially notwithstanding if that's deeply ingrained.

I'm so sorry to here about your bird. We also lost our cockatiel this past year, woke up in the morning and she was gone. Ours was old though so that made it easier then if she was young. We know she lived a good long life. Like everyone else said, birds are fragile and it could have been almost anything. Don't blame yourself, obviously you loved your bird. Pat yourself on the back for caring for your bird, there are too many people out there that don't care about their pets.

I'm so sorry to read about your Cockatiel. Many birds pass on suddenly for no apparent reason. Bird are very sensitive and can get sick quickly. By the time they show any signs that they are sick, it's too late. She may have had some kind of parasite or was affected by something in the air. Like I said, they are very sensitive. I'm sure that you did all you could for her and I'm sure that you gave her a good life and that's all you can ask.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Necropsy by an avian vet. She was loved and it's definitely worth the money to have closure as to what happened and it'll be comforting to know that it wasn't your fault.

Do you use non-stick cookware in your home? Non-stick fumes can kill birds in a matter of seconds and are also bad for humans in general. Other than that, only a vet can say.

Also, if you bring or have more birds in the house, if it was a disease that's trasferrable by air, you need to be aware of that and proper action to totally disinfect your home.

MY DEAR,

I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSE. ONE DAY YOU TWO WILL SEE EACH OTHER AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE [PET HEAVEN AS WE CALL IT].

MY DAKOTA GOT SICK AND DIED. MY VET TOLD ME THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT REQUIRED TO REGULATE THE FEED FOR PET BIRD SEEDS AND OFTEN MOLD CAN GET INTO IT CAUSING DEATH IN PARROTS. ALSO CAGES OR PAINT ON WALLS CAN HAVE LEAD PAINT IF OLD OR RUSTY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE. I UNDERSTAND YOU WANTING TO KNOW SO THAT IF IT IS SOMETHING YOU COULD PREVENT FOR FUTURE PET BIRDS.

if you still have her body, you can take her to the vet and get a biopsy (this is very expensive, so only do it if you have the money and really want to know for sure). i'm not going to take any guesses on why she died because i didn't see her, but i'm sure it wasn't your fault...you seem to have treated her very well. i am so sorry to hear about your loss.

There are many things that could have killed your bird.
Teflon, scented candles, perfumes, infections, illnesses, chocolate, onions, avacado, impacted crop, sour crop, egg impaction, disease, to name just a few reasons.
Unless you take her body to a vet, you will never know what killed her. Sorry to hear about your bird.
