I asked a question yesterday about what my fiance and I should register for if we don't really need anything...is it appropriate to register for things to help turn our spare room in the house into a baby's room? I'm not pregnant, but we are planning on having children soon!?!
Thanks!

No, it is not. The wedding is about the two of you getting married. Once you are pregnant, then someone might throw you a wedding shower. A wedding is not the time to get things ready for a future baby; that is just so absurd.
You really seem to have the "wrong" idea about gift-giving and weddings, or it may just be gift-giving in general, I don't know.
You invite people to your wedding because you wish them to be there. They are not "obligated" to give you a gift, but the majority of people do - they want to help the new couple out. You shouldn't be having expectations of gifts; that is just not right. Hopefully, you are getting married because of the commitment to what marriage is and what the vows mean.
If you truly don't want gifts for the wedding, that can be stated. But not with the expectation that they give money, or donate to a honeymoon, or a baby's room - or any other such odd idea.
Do you maybe have a mom you can talk to, an auntie, older sister -- anybody?

Ehh,,,I wouldn't do it. Not only would it be very confusing for your guests, but they will be wondering if you are already pregnant, or why on earth would you register for a crib for your wedding? If I were a guest I would think it odd. However, you could register at a store that sells baby items (Target, Burlington Coat Factory). Just register for 9 or 10 items, then most will either give you gift cards to that store or cash. What you buy with the gift cards/money is entirely up to you guys,

I don't think that this is such a good idea. I think that people will think that you are already pregnant and you will have a baby shower when the time comes for that. I wouldn register for sheets, towels etc.. I'm sure there is something that you can use for the house. If you really want to buy stuff for the room and people ask suggest gift cards so you can get what you want.

I would say no simply because what people will instantly think....and with all the stress you will be under with the wedding, you will not want to deal wiht freaking out relatives and friends and having to stop every 5 seconds to explain. you can have a baby shower when that comes around, but you want this to be about the 2 of you! As far as what to register for, just go pick stuff out...surely there are some things out there you would like to have, it doesn't have to be all china patterns and what-not! I know belk if you have one in your area has it to where you can return stuff and actually get cash which could be handy, but please please please don't ask directly for money, its really tacky and I personally wouldn't give you much of anything if that was my option! You could have word of mouth aunts and cousins hint towards that if the people don't see anything on your registry! good luck and congrats!

I think if you don't need "wedding" stuff then DON'T register at all and your guests will assume you want money. Now Don't flat out and say you want money, that is tacky but if your not prego, then save that for when you have a baby shower.... its your wedding and if you really don't need stuff for your house then don't make people buy stuff just for the heck of it, that is rude and tacky... Good Luck

Absolutely not-i and hubby wife registered at home depot.lowes.etc. when the time came for my shower- my sister and mom wrote the" to be married couple are blessed to have both a house and a house filled with love and material items. but they are planning a lot of home improvements-gift cards would be the topper of the wedding cake". It was great because we got gift cards from lowes.homedepot.taget (for towels, beddings, etc). Lots of people would say it's rude to tell people what to buy- by saying gift cards- your not telling them what to buy they spend what ever amount they want and you get to poick out. when we wrote our thanks you's we mentioned what we purchased with said gift card "aunt jane -thanks so much for your generous gift from lowes every time i look at the bedroom walls i will think of you and how you helped make it as beautiful as it turned out.

Then do vacation/honeymoon registry! Do see if anyone can give you gift cards to stores where they also include baby furniture or items. You'll definitely have a baby shower for those baby needs later;) Just enjoy the most of your wedding gifts, new things won't hurt to get think about safety items. Or even ask for savings bonds fro those babies savings accounts...

Some airlines have a setup where guests can buy miles for you. Perhaps do that instead of register at a store for stuff you don't need.

I think that is jumping the gun. Don't jinx yourself, you know. However....if someone gives you a gift certificate to Pottery Barn, there is nothing that says you can't use that certificate at Pottery Barn Kids.

Congratulations on all the future events in your life!!!
