I very much do belive in the fact that women should be drafted also but not put on the front lines with a gun. What do you think? If you find any good websites please post them! It was a cold chilly night. My parents were returning from shopping at a mall in Little Neck, Queens, NYC. My father clicked on the radio. Then the first birthday was announced - September 14. This was the first number in the Vietnam draft. Soon after, young men were drafted into the arm services.

Sad to say, this country might have to return to the draft if we believe all of the threatening situations around the world. If Iran and North Korea are experimenting with nuclear weapons, this spells catastrophe. Unless we could find another solution to safeguard America, we might have to resort to the draft.

Yes, I agree with you women should also be drafted. Yet why should women not be put on the front line. The future war is not a WWII conventional war. It's a war where we would have to patrol very dangerous streets and terrain. No open combat, wild west shoot outs. Everything now is guerrilla warfare.

The world is a lot different now than it was 60 years ago.All opinions and options have to be taken into consideration before any draft is started. A military draft in this era will be the biggest decision this country ever faces since all wars now could last for 20 to 30 years.

The idea behind an army that is all volunteer is that the people that are there WANT to be there and become professional soldiers. Even if they are in for 4 years and are not going to make a career of it. I was 18 yrs old when the draft started for the Viet Nam war. I had joined the NYARNG two months before that but I did my basic and AIT with draftees and for the most part they were bitter and angry that they were there. These are not the kind of people we want defending our country. So I would say that the draft may be on the horizon but that it is a long way off.

As far as women go I believe they should be treated the same as men, look at the Israeli Army, they have females and they do quite well for themselves.

I would go to Military.com for more information.

I hope this will help you out on your project:

"I think a MEGA-draft will be coming soon, because there is no way America can handle Iran with just the troops they got. I don't believe in the draft because the "silver-spoon" kids always get left out and I think it's not fair. I don't have problem with women being in the military, but I do have a problem with the draft. If you can't be on the front lines (women), then they should've be in the military. Don't treat one sex better than the other."

Also, you asked for good websites concerning the draft?

"Well, if you don't want to be sent into harms way for the big oil barons, then click on the link below and educate yourselves".

There will not be a draft. Do your paper on that.

Charles Rangle (D-NY) is the only one using this scare tactic. The draft is not needed. We have around 850,000 in the active army and the guard. That is under 20% if you figured 150,000 army soldiers in Iraq. Not to mention The Marine Corps and the Reserve Forces.

Part 2 of your question is mute since there will not be a draft. But..... I will play. Yes women would be a part. Women do wonderful jobs in the military.

There will not be any more draft. For one, we are making our enlistment requirements by volunteers. Also who ever was in office and instituted the draft it would be a politicians career ending move. Also if a politician did do this ie. the President it would be in his second term for he would never get reelected. So Bush is not going to put the draft in so you are looking at another 6 to 7 years before it could even be considered. Bush has 2 more years left and then the Next Pres. has to get reelected so do not worry about it or pick a different subject to write about

I believe the draft will be coming again. What with the wars in Iraq and Afganistan. The coming wars with Iran, Syria and North Korea. The U.S. border issues and if we get hit by more terrorist attacks or natural disasters. The draft has been revised to include women and men from the ages of 18- 42 to serve 1-2 years.

Is a draft coming for the USA ? NO... legislation would never pass. Even though the Democrats have submitted legislation to the House TWICE since 2001, it hasn't passed... only generated fear and rumors and whining.

Should the draft be restarted ? Perhaps we should have some form of compulsory service (military or civil).

YES, women should be entered into the Selective Service... they have fought and cried for equality in all facets of life. Well, here's your chance !!.

I think IF women are drafted they should be included in units as current US Law provides.

I served for 15 yrs in the Navy, and was there when Women first were permitted into combat-rates in Aviation (pilots & Aircrew). Some of my BEST pilots where females... calm, skilled, and precise.

Drafting women would destroy the military..Because women can not fight in combat. They would take all non combat support jobs. That would eliminate rotate of personnel. That is the problem we have no in Iraq. I a person finish his tour in Iraq he should do a tour state side or in a non combat role before going back.
This make is it harder for marry troop so it is harder to retain them. Most people who think about combat think about shooting a gun. what happen when you run out of bullets. It party time. They will kill the men and save the women for last.

whilst the U.S. miitary draft led to 1973, the U.S. protection rigidity grew to alter into an all-volunteer rigidity. before, in 1951, Congress had enacted a draft act that alter into accompanied by using a UMT, or known protection rigidity training, requirement (click on hyperlink contained in source container under). in my opinion, the UMT requirement, which exchange into in result once I reached my 18th birthday and registered for the draft, exchange right into a solid concept. It more desirable the wide-unfold effectiveness of the U.S. militia by using dramatically lowering the type of youthful adult males reaching adulthood who had no inkling of what the protection rigidity experience exchange into all approximately and how the U.S. protection rigidity functioned in definitely prepare. i would not oppose the respect of a revival of the UMT concept, yet i think of a few way must be discovered to enable it to be seen one after the different from any dialogue of the conceivable choose for raising troop ranges in Iraq.

You can't close a womans place in the military just because of her sex, before they are even tried and tested. I say ANYONE who is willing to serve their country with their own life deserves to be respected and given any job they can and will do, as long as they pass all the training they had to. That said, wikipedia is the best for this since it includes external links if there isn't enough information
