I'm going out to New york and staying in Midtown Manhattan at the end of Jan for a long weekend with some friends. What are the best places to go, see and do? Obviously there are the traditional sight seeing tourist places, but any thing else that may be different would be good as well.

Different huh take a walk around Greenwich village. But since you are here you really should see the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and the financial district" Wall Street" . These can all be done in a morning as they are pretty close together.

As for the Museum of Natural History, The Planetarium St Patricks Cathedral, Time Square, Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center along with the Empire State building the are in mid town Manhattan and could be done in one day also. At night go skating in central park of at Rockefeller center

Have fun

This city is too big to list everything. Get a Frommers guide and pick a few things out of it.

When you arrive, get the current issue of Time Out New York for all the weekly events going on.

The Zagat guide is the best for picking restaurants.

Since you are in Midtown you will be an easy walk from Timesquare, rockefeller center and St Patricks Cathedral.

If you tell us what you like and what your interests are, we can help you more. Do you like shopping? Are you looking for "night life" suggestions? Want to see beautiful architecture? Eat at great restaurants? Take a walking tour? Walk over the bridge? Interested in sports?

Ground Zero is a "different" place to visit. Not as sick as it sounds. There are lots of incredible & compelling photos as a tribute...
