I live in Minnesota where it gets very cold. My pug has bad hips and when I take her out on days like today (-5 degrees), she can't go potty because the ground is so cold/frozen. She begins to stiffen up and has something almost like a seizure. I'm not sure what to do, since if she doesn't go potty for a while, that same thing happens. I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to how I can maybe make the ground warmer or any ideas that could help. At this point, I'm not sure if she is trainable in kitty litter since she is 5 years old. Thanks!

Get her booties and a warm doggie coat. Make sure the ground is clear where she needs to go---shovel it or whatever. Carry her out on leash and put her down.

That's all I can think of. Why not look at www.akc.org for the local pug club and find a breeder in MN and see what they do?

Or call a pug breed rescue---they would be able to answer any questions, I am sure.

There may even be a pug breeder/owner group on Yahoo you could ask.

Good luck.

First of all, your dog, a pug, is not too old to litter train. Secondly, it would be easier to littler train your pug if you had a cat in the house. Dogs usually follow, for some reason, what the cat does, especially if there are multiple cats. Third of all, they do have pet diapers that you can buy just in case of an accident after not going out and doing thier business.

I own a Pug... I can't get her to do anything except what she wants to do,...When she was a baby, I tried to house break her. I would catch her fixing to go in the house and I would try to catch her to get her outside . I guess it scared her and now she runs while she is using the bathroom all the time. When she is outside she leaves trails of poop instead of a pile.. Kinda funny.. Pugs are like owning a mini bull..Good luck

One of my greyhounds (I think) had her feet frozen at one point and they really hurt in the cold. I put her boots on and sometimes her coat and she's fine. Why not get boots and a sweater for your pug - it might be enough for her so she can go out and do her business more comfortably.

Maybe if you put papers down in the bathroom it would help, or at least make sure you shovel the area for her to go in, since small dogs have problems with this. I had a Jack Russell and it helped with him.(Mi)

Litter train your dog. She'll love you more for it.
