Good point Tommy.What i meant was how can some be good and some bad,surley they all serve a purpose,its just how we use or abuse them.

I just know how to make it all taste and look fantastic.

The Scientific fact are

1. Simple sugars like monosaccharides Glucose or disaccharides sucrose get absorb quickly as a high glycaemic index foodstuffs(6.2 Cals /gram). The rapid absorption in the blood causes a release of the natural insulin which converts the glucose etc to a storage form ie. Glycogen and the much unwanted fat.
The increase of insulin carries its effect on and makes one crave for more and more food to eat........So a vicious cycle is maintained

2. Complex carbohydrate e.g. rice,pasta , vegetables etc.are long chain glucose etc.polymers (polysaccharides) which need to be broken down during digestion and for absorption . As you can imagine the whole process is slow ,with a slow absorption rate. The insulin does not surge up as much (Low glycaemic index). So the storage process is slow and we do not have the craving for more food thereafter, at least for a relatively long time.

Carbohydrates are nutrients our body converts to sugar (glucose) and introduces it into the blood stream to produce the energy needed for our body to function.

To address you question, there really aren't good and bad carbs. The absorption rate of the carbohydrate is what you are talking about. The hype is that slower absorption is better for your body. OK, that may be true in some cases. Particularly for diabetics, like myself, slower absorbing carbs help to maintain a more level blood sugar by eliminating or at least dampening the spikes one gets from the quicker absorbing carbs. These slower carbs are also considered better for people trying to loose weight.

A few minutes, spent by you, looking into "Glycemic Index" on the web will answer many of your questions, including which carbs are "GOOD" and which are "BAD". May I suggest you visit the site I have included in the source section of this answer.

Unprocessed carbohydrates are good. Sugar and white flour r bad.

Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span. No food or drink in between the food and not more than three meals a day, unless u r diabetic.

Sugar is the baddest of the bad carbs, because your body absorbs it into your bloodstream really quickly, and if you don't use the energy from that sugar right away, it will be stored as fat. You might also have a "sugar crash" as all that sugar will enter your bloodstream really quick, then leave really quick as well.

The best carbs are low in sugar and high in fiber. Fiber slows down digestion and not only does it make you feel fuller, but it causes the carbs to be released into your bloodstream really slowly and over a longer period of time, providing you with sustained energy and are less likely to be turned into fat. Fiber is also good for your body in many other ways.

In between these two are carbs from foods that don't have that much sugar, but also don't have that much fiber. Those carbs will be absorbed slower than sugary foods, but quicker than high-fiber foods.

on a less hilarious note, good carBs are slow release ones, such as those found in fruit (fructose), pasta and potatoes and rices (starches). This release sugars into the blood stream at a controlled rate as they take longer to break down and are called complex carbohydrates.
Bad carbs are simple carbohydrates such as those found in biscuits, cakes and sweets. They are short chain carbs, and so hit the blood stream very quickly, resulting in a sugar spike. repeated intake of these over time are related to adult onset diabetes. Simple carbs can be of use when eaten prior to exercise or to treat hypoglycaemia.

Good carbs are complex carbohydrates or low Glycaemic index carbohydrates and bad carbs are simple carbohydrates or high glycaemic index foods.
