I can't put it better than the explanation I found in my bible dictionary:

STEWARDSHIP - Utilizing and managing all the resources God provides for the glory of God and the betterment of His creation.

Hi Ken,
I see a Stewardship as being a position of trust to ensure the all facilities within a Church, of affiliated organasation, are properly catered for and looked after.
I am a Steward of a Masonic Chapter, and despite mis-beleifs about it all, I collect charity, ensure that all are suitably happy, then collect more charity money.
The Steward on my boat is the dog. He collects scraps, barks when the stove needs firing up, and listens nicely when I play dodgy organ. It could be the person that knocks on your cabin door with a tray of nice stuff on a liner.
According to the OED, it is someone employed to manage an estate, an aircraft, or similar.
I once asked for a beef stew, from the Steward. " Well - you must be in charge of the stew !
It did not go down well, and I don't blame him.
All the best with Stewardship - if that is a word !
Bob.
