I'm not losing any weight. I was told that I was drinking too much water and that my body was retaining it so I need to cut back on it. What should I drink instead that won't make me gain weight? What is a healthy alternative for water?

Just stick to the water. 64 oz. I believe is the recommended daily intake. What else are you doing? Are you working out to be able to sweat some of the water out? Are you very active during the day? Is your sodium intake where it should be?

I think water is the best thing you can drink. You may be retaining it because you may be taking in too much salt or too much sugar. Anything else would have more calories than water. Check your salt and sugar intake. You may not realize how much salt/sugar are in some things Check the labels and see the contents of ingredients. If in doubt ask your doctor. Sometimes one item can be cause the problem. If you drink bottled water check the label. A few brands have added things that you don't need.

First, water doesn't make you gain weight. Water is essential to rehydrate the muscles and your body, especially after working out. If you have just started a exercise regimen, you won't see a drop in the weight right away. If you belong to a gym, talk to a nutrionalist/personal trainer about what you are doing for exercise, your eating habits or what you are eating as well as your intake of water.

You're not losing weight because you've only been doing this for 2 weeks.

Give your body time to adjust and unless you're eating foods with high salt content or you naturally retain water 64oz.....is fine.

There is no alternative to water.....it's what we're made of basically.

While it's true that water has no calories, it is NOT true that water cannot make you heavier. Compare how much an empty one gallon water jug weighs compared to a full one. The same is true in your body.

If you were told that your body was retaining water (assuming you were told this by a doctor or other professional) then what were you told to do about it?

Keep drinking the water - 64 oz is not too much. Ultimately, weight loss comes down to calories, so cut down on those.

Your body needs water, and drinking water will not make you retain it. If you are exercising, judge your progress by how you feel, and how your clothes fit, not by the scale. If you feel good, and your clothes are fitting better then you are toning up and building muscle mass which weighs more than fat, but takes up less space and metabolizes more calories. Good luck on your path to fitness!

just cut down on the water, but water is the best thing to drink , so I wouldn't stop or subsitute it for anything else. Make sure you are eating enough too, because when people don't eat enough they gain weigh!!!!!!!! Talk to a trainer, they should know.

Drinking water doesn't cause you to lose weight BY ITSELF. It still must be coupled with eating less and moving more. Water has no calories, so you're not going to find a better substitute.
