These links will give instructions and screenshots of how install XP on a brand new, never used hard drive and a previously used hard drive:

I selected XP Pro but the steps are the same for XP Home. If you have other questions you can go to the windows install home page:

As far as a free Microsoft anything, dont. With all the checks MS is doing now through their Genuine Advantage scans, it's not worth it. Try Open Office. It's free and compatible with MS Office.

If you've got the disk, what's the problem? Just follow on-screen instructions. You won't get Office 2003 free anywhere, although if you wait a couple of years no doubt one of the mags will give it away!! Remember, you're talking about Microsoft here - whenever did they give anything for free?

Set your PC to boot from the disk drive and leave the XP disk in and restart.
Then all you should do is follow the onscreen prompts.
As for 'Free' Office - just try 'OpenOffice' , its completely free and you can do much the same things with it.

"free office 2003" would imply pirate software. Get open office.

As for installing XP from scratch, the cd is bootable.

the finest answer is to purchase a USB linked DVD force. I were given a small exterior DVD burner for my netbook, and positioned that it would want to burn in basic terms high-quality using USB power from a small retractable USB cable.

Stick the cd in, boot up, format, install, update.

stick in the disc and let it run, unless you want to do partitioning, then i think the disc can help you with that too.
