Catholics believe the essence of existence (meaning of life) is to know and love God.
We are to love the Lord, your God, with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind. And we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. (from Matthew 22:36-39)
If this is done correctly, then everyone would be looking out for each other.
