I am a big fan of English Bulldogs and Labs. My Girlfriend is a big fan of Yorkies and Toy dogs. What breed of dog would be a happy median?

I love my Lab, but he is soo big. I would have liked to have had a smaller dog. My brother and his wife love to death their little pitbull, shes as harmless and sweet as can be! She is scared of brooms, and cookie jars!! lol! So dont worry about pitbulls being dangerous, I have 3 friends with pitbulls they are medium sized and adorable! Very well mannered and easy to train.

Get a mutt.

To the girl who suggested that each of you should get a dog that you like: Not a bad idea-IF they as a couple have the time, energy, and money to do two puppies at once. Plus, the dogs will grow up together, and if they are some what compatible, they can be crated together.

Good luck!

Oh yeah-I would be remiss if I didn't suggest that you try a boxer! They are great fun, love people, they are half way smart, and loaded with personality!

I'm in between. I absolutely adore Labs, and I have three Chihuahua's.

You can go for a medium sized dog such as a beagle, Boston Terrier, Pug, Schiperkea(sp).

While I am partial to small dogs because I love my Chihuahua's, I think your girlfriend would be happy with a Lab. They are so lovable. They are huge babies and make wonderful pets.

cocker spaniels are a great medium sized dog. they are pretty to look at without being too "girly". they r intelligent & easy to train. some other fantastic breeds which are a happy median are:
-American Eskimos
-Basenji
-Beagel
-French Bulldog
-Scotty
-Fox Terrier
-Basset Hound
-Italian Greyhound
Also, if you are into mixed breeds, then why not try a labradoodle? (lab x poodle) this is a great mix- an intelligent and loyal dog who is not HUGE, nor small, not boyish, nor girly!!
I really hope i helped! choosing the right dog can be tough sometimes!! =)

I have a golden lab and a german shepherd cross and they are lovely dogs. I am also a big fan of Springer Spaniels.
Personally, I'd ignore her and get either the bulldog or lab!!!

Try for an irish terrier. It's a medium size dog with lots of energy, so you get the best of both worlds (i.e. toy dogs and smaller breeds like to play alot). Originally used to hunt rabbits and otters, an irish terrier needs alot of running room - so a fenced in backyard is obviously a must. Anyways, irish terrier's aren't small, and they aren't house rats either.

You guys might like a Frech Bulldog. They look a little like their cousins the English Bulldog, but are much smaller.

I have had many different breeds in my life and we have loved them all for many reasons. Recently, we adopted a Shih Tzu puppy and my whole family has fallen in love. He is playful, smart, quiet when it's not playtime, loving, and a great companion. He doesn't shed (they have hair - not fur) so less hair mess and no pet dander. Because he's so small he is easy to take in the car for a trip. He is very quick however, and can be a fierce competitor when it's time to be.

Try www.iams.com they have an in depth questionairre that helps you select exactly what breed fits you likes and needs. I tried it and found the perfect dog.(a Bagle, half beagle-half basset).
PS I really liked bulldogs too but hey are ridiculously expensive.
