Can you recommend a good equation editor - freeware or paid-for?

I'm not happy with Word 2000's in-built editor.

Isn't the Excel equation editor awful! It is SO unstable, it crashes all the time!

Well you can also insert LateX equations into openoffice by installing the macro OOolatex available at http://ooolatex.sourceforge.net/

Try open office http://www.openoffice.org it has a maths program never used it though
