It's really a project that I have wanted to do for a very long time
and since I dont have college till the summer I thought I would pick one of my many projects that i have long wanted to do and... well... do it. So any helpful links or hints.

i just want a basic five finger pick stuff up with it arm

Robotic arms are customary build to specification that are based on intended usage.

Well you didnt mentioned about the robotic arm controlling system, if it is menual construction you will be needing nothing but just something which reads your veins and transmit it into commands to your artificial arm.
