Labs are prone to have allergies and with this also comes ear infections. Bring him to the vet for an ear check. Keep his ears clean and dry. Also, change his food to a high grade dog food. The most common offenders for allergies in dogs are beef, dairy products, chicken, wheat, chicken eggs, corn, and soy. You need to find a protein source like venison, rabbit, fish, duck or even ostrich. Some foods to try: Flint River Ranch, Natural Balance, Canidae, Timberwolf, James Wellbeloved, Wellness Fish and Potato, Wysong's...just to name a few (research at your leisure what you can afford and which you'd like to try).
One of the other problems could be that this isn't a food allergy, but an environmental allergy (dust, mold, pollen, etc.). Sometimes adding the Omega 3 oils helps with the skin, along with diphenhydramine (benedryl)

First I'd suspect his ears. Labs are notorious for ear problems. Depending on his age the ears could be infected (even deeper than you can see), have ear mites, or just be dirty. In mature dogs there are allergy reasons that affect the ears too. Inhalent allergies cause the ears to "tingle"...as well as the feet, tail and muzzle. Food allergies manifest as ear problems quite often. Might be worth having a vet look at and into his ears for any sign of problem.

He/she likely has an ear infection. Look inside the ears. If they smell and look red, it's an infection. Go to the vet and get an ear cream....costs around $8.00.
I have a lab and they get this all the time!

hi, i have a lab who had the same problem, because they have floppy ears the wax and gunk builds up inside the ear and is not easily washed out as with other dogs. go to your vet and get him/ her to check your labs ears, drain and or clean them, and also to show you how you can do it as well.
also my lab had very dry flaky itchy skin, and a red rash. after many vet bills it turned out he was allergic to corn based food, so now he doesn't have anything with corn in it and he is much better!!!

I would recommend that your lab be seen by his veterinarian. Labs tend to have skin and ear problems, if he is shaking his head alot he may have an ear problem down inside of his ear. Please seek medical attention for your pet.

Sounds like an ear infection - do his ears smell bad? Best to have a vet check him out.

Check his ears. It could be dry skin and itching or an ear infection.

Check inside your labs ears. Sometimes they have either mites or alot of black in there. Just take a Q-tip with peroxide and clean them out. If it is mites, you will want to use alcohol instead.
