1800 - ok no i read the question wrong

ok now i get 3,999,960 does that sound right

this is my idea - each number is at each position 24 times (i.e. there are 24 numbers of 5XXXX and XXX2X etc etc)

therefore if you take 24 times each number (or 1+2+3+4+5) times its power of ten
Then add then all together to get the answer

Is this wrong?

The number of different 5 digit numbers so formed must be 5! = 120
The average of these numbers, by symmetry, must be 33333
So the sum must be 120 * 33333 = 3999960
