July, 1940 to May, 1941 though the daylight battles took place between august and october.

yes 1940, but also don't forget that it was to be followed up by hitlers operation sea lion. the invasion of england. he already had troops and ships in french and dutch ports ready to go. he wanted air superiority before the invasion was set to begin. but it failed so it never took place. If it was not for the heroes of the RAF and the other countries that helped, free french,polish,czech,americans in the RAF, and others and britain would have gotten invaded and lost. The war would have lasted a lot longer. including no air bases or ports for our fighters,bombers,soldiers, not even africa! a lot of what ifs had hitler succesfully invaded england. also by estimates i have read that 2 more weeks of air campaigns and germany would have air superiority. it was that close!

it wasn't one single battle but the name given to the sustained attacks by the luftwaffe over Britain during WW2
