why do so many people hate each other?

alot of people call the selfs Jesus followers and have christ in there hearts but what about the times when we argue with people that we don't talk to them anymore or how about when people do bad stuff to us and we don't talk to them any more we must remember what the bible says in romans 12 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"[d]says the Lord. 20On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Mainly Jealousy. They want something from them be it Wealth or Land or some Object or if the other person is more attractive and has better things. This is the diversity of Life. Good & Bad. Yin & Yang. It is required to balance things out.

Equilibrium. Not everybody can be good. Because if they got near to that state then good would start to become a little bad, ad infinitum.

I have spent some time in prison and have seen hate at its best.I myself have changed my life do to that ,what I seen in prison has caused an everlasting impression about diffrent ethnic cultures.I come from a very small farming town in Illinois and had never meet or had to deal with anyone other than whites.So many things are stereotypical about other cultures and religions,but I have learned so much about people as a whole.Most of the hate in the world today I think is because know one opens their eyes to other people and what is important to them.True we create our own dislikes just by being who we are or by the kind of life we live.Some people fail to except that diffrent cultures live and believe in so many diffrent ways and think some of the things they do are repulsive.But most of all we refuse to give other people a chance to prove they are not the people we once thought they were.Hate comes from thoughts about things or people we refuse to except.

First of all, just saying that you are a Christian does not make you one. You have to obey and live by the commands of the New Testament. You have to follow the example of behavior of kindness and love shown by Christ.
Christians are not perfect. They should not be thought of as perfect. Only Jesus Christ was perfect(sinless). Romans3:23;Hebrews 4:15
Being a Christian does not make one immune to sinning. We are still human beings. We still get hurt feelings. We still get angry. We still cry.
Christians who hold grudges, speak evil of others, won't speak to others, or revenge others are not living as they should. They need to read the Bible and repent and pray. They must make amends to others, as much as they can if they have wronged someone. Christians will make mistakes, but they can repent and seek forgiveness.

I was set to answer your question and to offer help until I read that lie about Christians! We are not the haters here!
Jesus tell us to help those less fortunate than we are. We are to help the poor. It sounds to me that you are listening to the wrong people. Jesus loves you and so do I. I don't hate anyone not even atheists. I feel very uncomfortable listing to the hurtful words of an atheist and I usually say "I I disagree with you, God loves you may god bless" and I leave. Not because I hate them it just doesn't do any good trying to change their minds just like it won't do any good for an atheist to try to change my mind! I've got my mind made up! As for you it seems that you know the Bible for your own hatred issues please follow the words of Jesus.Love those who persecute you.I see much more of the Atheists saying hurtful things to Christians.Even though you don't believe I still know that your life has inherent worth. But I will not listen to you say hurtful things about my lord.I won't try to change your mind either.

It's partly the fault of the Exclusivity Doctrine that comes part and parcel with the Abrahamic faiths: "I am right therefore everyone else is wrong/not as good/doomed to hell." It is a conciet that leads to arrogance, which leads directly to conflict and fear. The more intolerant of other ideas a faith is, the more fearful and arrogant it is.
