A step by step graphical representation of a process or a program showing all decision points and actions that can be taken.

A time-saving illustration of the flow of data when it is used by a program. There are some symbols that are commonly used for different points in the chart: boxes, arrows, circles, etc. I haven't seen flowcharts used much in the programming environment except in texts but a manager who assigns a project would have a good idea of a program's structure by looking at the flowchart prepared by the programmer. Needless to say, for a powerpoint presentation, looking at a flowchart has more impact than just listing programmming code.
