My husband and I are planning to go to Disney for a few days. I normally leave my dog with my mother but she cannot take care of her for those days, I hate to put her in a kennel. She really is not used to traveling, I want to take her with us in the car and check into a dog friendly hotel leave her in the room. It would be like she is at home. I am sure their are places we can take her when we are not in the park. Can anyone give me any ideas or comments?

You know, there's a couple things you could do that would be convenient in your situation...

One - Stay on property at Walt Disney World at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. There are cabins and areas to set up tents or park trailers, and pets can stay right at the Resort with their families.

Two - I know you said you'd hate to put her in a kennel, but if you don't come up with a better solution, there are kennels located all around Walt Disney World property. The facilities are extremely clean and well-kept, and the animals are very well taken care of. Also, it is require that you visit and walk your pet two to three times each day, so you'll be able to check in on your dog whenever you'd like. And since it's actually required, you don't have to be worried that you won't have time to see her or take care of her - you HAVE to.

Here's a link to a lot of information about the kennels at Walt Disney World. There are reports from Guests who've let their pets stay at the kennels, pictures of the facilities, and plenty of information about costs and eveything else...

I tried looking up some pet friendly accomodations at http://www.petfriendlytravel.com/ The Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites at Orlando International Airport and the Holiday Inn Express at Lake Buena Vista are both pet friendly, and you can find out more information if you check out the link.

Hope I could help! Have fun!

You might want to try finding a Pet Hotel (as the above post stated) or a kennel at home that will take your pet if you are on vacation for just a few days. I know you dislike the idea of putting your dog in a kennel, but it could be perhaps the new solution. Or even trying to place your dog with familiar friends.

Your dog being with you will make scared, frighten, or even "freaked out" because of the new surroundings, the new enviorment, new people, and other things. If you leave your dog in a hotel for a day while you are away your dog could become lonely or confused.

If you still insist your dog being with you while on vacation, then you might want to consult with a travel agency or even a place like AAA to suggest pet friendly places within the Disney resort or around the Orlando area. You might want to contact Disney to see what they have available for pet friendly tourist areas.

There are some links about pet friendly tourist information. Good Luck.

I went to Disney this past fall...and I would recommend NOT taking your dog. There is so much to see/do that you will be away from your hotel for long periods of time leaving your dog alone. She will not feel like she is "at home" because she isn't--especially if she is not used to traveling. Leaving her alone in the hotel is worse than taking her to a kennel where she will be exercised several times a day and has the company of other dogs/staff. Just got visit a few kennels in your area and ask to see the actual areas where they stay. If you do some looking I am sure that there are some nice places.

We usually leave our dogs with my in-laws as well when we travel--but have had to kennel them on occasion. I've never had a problem with the places that I was comfortable with. A lot of times you can have your dog groomed while you are gone...that way it is kind of like an extended spa day for the pooches...though I suspect that they don't get as much enjoyment from the pampering that we do.

Anyway, give it some thought as to how much time you are going to be able to actually spend with your dog while you are on vacation and see if it wouldn't be better to kennel her.

BTW...we routinely were in the park/away from our hotel for over 12 hours at a time and we had a 5 yr old and 1.5 year old with us. We all had a magical time, but were NEVER at our hotel.

I think you should find a nice kennel in your hometown. They have new ones now which are more like a resort for your dog, rather than a traditional kennel. They have their own private rooms, and even TV sets! Just do some researching in your area. You wouldn't be doing anything for your baby if you brought him/her with you.

if you can afford it see if you can put her in a pet hotel rather than a kennel. is there a risk of her damaging a hotel room? I think being left in a strange place wouldn't be the same as leaving her at home, i think it would be very stressful to leave her in a strange place for long periods, do you not have a neighbour or friend who could walk her & feed her while you're away?

Although leaving your dog in the hotel may sound like a good idea i wouldn't do it. Every major Theme Park and Attraction in Florida has a Kennel which is very nice. Leaving the dog during the day at one of these places assures that he will be fed and water won't run out. Also the Kennels at WDW are very nice and so are the Cast Members who work them!

I know that days inns are pet friendly and be sure you bring her crate as you wont get maid service if the dog is not crated . I live in fla but recently my sister was visiting and she brought her dog with her and they told her on the phone to crate her dog please when she is not in the room or she would not have fresh towels ,sheets or anything of that nature. good luck to you and have a nice trip.
