I am moving into a new/bigger apartment in new york city and I really want to get a dog. For people that live in the city, what do you do with your dogs while you work during the day. Im afraid that the puppy would be alone for too long. Any ideas?

I work a normal 9-5 job and dont know if I can afford doggy day care. Is getting a dog walker to come once during the day enough, if I'm with the puppy in the morning and all night?

it all depends on how much u work. if u work terribly long hours avery day, or even 5 days a week, then getting a dog wouldnt be very good. dogs - esecially puppys get bored very quickly. when they are bored they will bark alot (very frustrating for the neighbours) and they will also start destroying things around the house.

dogs are fine to be left alone for small periods, but do get very lonely and can develop seperation anxiety. remember that they need love, comfort and plenty of attention.

there are other options. if u have some extra money, you can actually employ someone to come to your house while u are at work and take pup for a walk and play with it for an hour. this will eally help as when it gets home from its walk or play time it will be exausted and probably sleep until you return home.

you should look into doggy daycare. im sure they have dog play groups in a city like new york. there are plenty around sydney. you just drop ur dog off when u go 2 work and they stay and play with other dogs and learn fun doggy things until u return to pick it up. it is very stimulating for a dog and also very important for its social skils!!

i know what it feels like to want a dog terribly! i finally got mine middle of last year. i wish u the very best of luck and i hope i was able to help!! =)

If you will be working long hours during the day then perhaps having a puppy might not be best. Youmight want to look into getting an older dog (adult dog) instead.

I have a puppy and she has a very short attention span and becomes bored very easily. I do not leave her alone for more than 4 hours and I'm constantly trying to find ways to keep her entertained. If puppies are left alone for too long they can develop separation anxiety or become destructive.

If you insist on having a puppy then you should arrange for a dog walker, pet sitter, or doggie daycare for your dog while you are away at work. So that your dog can recieve the care and attention needed during his puppy stages. I also suggest that you provide your puppy with plenty of toys to keep your dog entertained. As well (if you can) to come back and check on your puppy during breaks, perhaps play with your dog for awhile before you go back to work.

Since I'm with my puppy mostly all day everyday I have no problem with trying to find a solution for her care. The max allowed time I will leave her alone in any setting is 4 hours. During that time she is restricted to parts of my apartments (living room, dining room, kitchen) she has gained my trust to be allowed in most of the rooms in my apartment to roam (except my bedroom because she's not full house trained and my bedroom is carpet).

Good Luck.

You may want to reconsider getting a puppy, as they must go out more often than once in a 10 hour period. An older dog that's housebroken can handle being walked once during that time, a pup cannot.

It does anticipate the applying rigidity and the cab company's regulations. I choose to call motor vehicle centers and ask for a canines friendly motor vehicle on an identical time as i choose it, yet pay interest of fee will develop. My fav company actual fees $5 greater advantageous and a few drivers circulate away that could fee off simply by actuality my canines is so acceptable behaved. I truthfully have become a cab particularly without postpone without postpone off the line, yet it incredibly is via the actuality the applying rigidity grew to become suitable right into a canines lover. i do no longer problem with domestic dog taxis simply by actuality they often can fee 2 situations the fee of a classic cab fare.

Instead of a puppy, look into getting a rescued dog. They are not as needy as puppies, and you might just have to re-train them a little bit. Our pit bull is rescued and she is fine. I am out of my apartment at 445 am and my fiance is out at 7 am. We dont get back till about 5, 530 pm. Something definitely looking into.

Hi, very good question. When I got my maltepoo, I notice... (after about 2 months) that he is sitting in the corner and he looks depressed.... so I went to the shelter and got myself a second dog. I know that they both miss me when I'm gone but I believe that they are just fine (toys are all over the room, so I can see they were playing). Good luck.

Getting a dog when you don't have time to take care of it is irresponsible.
