I've tried a divider, a curtain behind the divider to help her feel more secure, an eating schedule, etc. Any new ideas?

I actually hired a dog behaviorist to cure my pure bred chihuahua of this!

This type of behavior can be the results of the dog coming from a puppy mills or having stayed too long in a pet store. They are stuck in cages or pens and they become used to living/sleeping in their own waste.

The behaviorist suggested that I put a Doggie Diaper on my dog. Yes, it sounds totally crazy, but it worked! The purpose of the diaper is to make is hard for the dog to squat into his pooping position!

I placed my dogs crate right next to my bed and put the diaper on him right before bed. The diaper was so uncomfortable to poop in that he whined and scratched at the crate's door. It was 2 AM and I jumped into my shoes and took him out right away.

I had been trying to potty train my dog for almost a year and with the diaper, he stopped pooping his crate in less than a week.

She also suggested that I introduce a verbal command when the dog is peeing or pooping. While he was doing it, I told him to`"Go Potty" and as soon as he was done, I mad a big fuss and gave him a super special treat. So, now going potty was a pleasant experience.

The trainer also told me that if my dog messed his crate it was MY fault. My job is to watch him and make sure that I do not allow him the opportunity to mess his crate or the house. So I would keep a tether on my dog and his doggie diaper on. With the diaper it is hard for him to squat, so I would know he had to go and that gave me enough time to take him outside. Once outside, reinforce the Go Potty command and give yummy treat.

Please note: the diaper doesn't prevent the dog from messing your house or the crate. It makes it uncomfortable for them to go, thus giving you enough time to correct his behavior.

I hope this helps. I know it solved my problem and when my dog once reverted to doing it again, I put the diaper back on! He is 4 1/2 now and haven't had this problem in years. LOL

many people will tell u that dogs will not toilet where they sleep. dogs WILL infact poo and pee where they sleep. i have proof! my dog had done it in the past, so does my neighbours 2 dogs and my friends.

take her out of the cage and into the back yard every time she wakes up, eats or has been playing. wait with her there until she goes. she is bound to go some time.

there is a spray you can get from the pet store called "piss off". if u spray this in the cage she will not want to toilet there at all. it is sort of a dog toileting repellant.

regular walking and time out of the cage should also help. if your dog only poos at night in her cage when u r sleeping, then this is the time that she needs to go. my dog also goes ony at night. if this is the case, then i would reccomend not keeping her in a cage at all, but puting her in a bed and giving her access to outside.

i hope i was able to help you!! =)

You're gonna hafta keep a closer eye on her.....if she's sniffing around, odds are she's getting ready to take a dump......and then hurry up and get her outside, or on a newspaper, or whatever's acceptable...even though she's only twelve weeks old, it's not too early to get in the habit of showing her where to go....it makes actual training easier later on.

my suggestion is to get the smallest crate possible for your dog. my dog did that cause she had room to poop and still room to lie down away from it. not sure if that is the same as what you tried with the divider.

Take her for a walk and walk her until she poops. Pups don't need to poop as much as adult dogs so one "poop walk" a day should be ok for her to see her through the day.

make the cage just big enough for her to sleep and turn around in. also, let her out right before bed and as early in the morning as you can. good luck!

Something is very wrong here! A dog who potties in his crate has not been taught correctly. Please, read the following site -
