She has been there for 3 or 4 months. She's about 60lbs and around 10months old. She is very very hyper, which I can't understand from being in the cage for 3 or 4 months. It is a no kill shelter. I totally fell in love with her when i seen her, but seeing her out almost makes me want to change my mind. With her being only 10months she still in the puppy stage, but will she calmn down? Any advice would be great as I am going back today to actually get her outside in a fenced in yard there.

How good of you to adopt a shelter dog! And YES! she will calm down. Dogs are not meant to be kept in cages so they over react when they finally get let out. I adopted a chihuahua who had spent the first two years of his life kept in a closet. I brought him home and he walked in circles for the first three days because he didn't know he could go any further. When he discovered he could, he'd race through the house and yard until he was just panting. Took him about two weeks to realize that no one was going to lock him up again and to calm down.
You're new "kid" will be just fine! And lucky to get to come live with you!

Firstly I'd like to congratulate you on choosing a shelter for a new dog rather than a pet store. There are so many dogs out there looking for a loving home.
Anyway, onto your question. I currently have two dogs, one is barely 5 months old, the other, a shelter dog who we got this Saturday, is a little over 1 year old. Their attitudes are completely different. The 5 month old just wants to play constantly whereas the older dog is quiet happy just laying there or sleeping whenever there's not someone around to play. Of course if he hasn't seen you in a little bit he gets excited but not nearly to the degree my puppy does.
Also, the dogs at the shelter get excited because they know you might potentially be taking them home! They're just happy to see you and want to play so that you fall in love with them ;)
So to sum up, yes, she will calm down as she grows up and as she get used to her new surroundings. However if she doesn't, you can always use training techniques to teach her the calmer behavior that you would prefer. Exercise will also help.

Yes, she should calm down a little. She will still have active periods through out the day, but if you exercise her once or twice a day she should be fine. They are known to be a rather lazy breed anyway. I got my English Bulldog from a shelter, and she was super hyper at first, but she turned into a lazy old gal before I knew it. She is still happiest laying on top of us though, and she weighs 75lbs. I think your little girl will be fine. Just take her to a dog park or somewhere to run off some of her energy before you take her home. I would also crate train her, and buy a lot of chew toys. Good Luck.

I in basic terms watched on Animal Planet a coach called emergency vets and tonight's coach became about animals who had swallowed something. that is fullyyt plausible that she were given a carry of something she might want to no longer have. canines will eat rocks, metallic, that they had x-rays exhibiting the position one canines easily ate a padlock - Take her to the vet interior the am and get an x-ray and locate out what you're dealing with. I save some issues accessible for emergency treatment - one is a paste nutrition. canines don't love something on their nostril or maybe a very ill canines which couldn't eat will lick something off their nostril. I positioned this on the nostril of the canines to make confident they get adequate supplements and iron even as no longer ingesting. good success -enable us understand how she does.

Bassets will calm down but I think that their puppy stage lasts a little longer than other breeds. My neighbors basset is 3 and is still a little ball of energy for part of the day but sleeps like a baby for the rest.

she will learn to adapt to how you live. If you are layed back she will become that way too. My in laws got a black lab from the shelter and she was the same way, but now she is so layed back and calm.

I have a bassett hound, trust me their favorite sport when they get older is sleep. She is probably hyper for lack of proper excercise and attention.
