I would read the fine print on the back of your ticket. I imagine that it's probably a condition of collecting the prize money. Most likely, in order to collect, you have to allow them to release your name and use your likeness in their advertising. Hey, it's a small price to pay for all that moolah!

You don't have to do the press conference or stuff of that nature, and you might be able to funnel it through a trust. The short answer, though, is that you can't really remain anonomous.

This is what the Powerball website has to say on the subject:

All but three states (DE, KS, ND) have laws that require the lottery to release the name and city of residence to anyone who asks. One state (SC) will keep your name secret if you request it, but if someone files a Freedom of Information Act request, you may have to file a plea with the judge to deny it. Photos and press conferences are always up to you. Most of the time, it is advisable to get it over with the press so that you don't have one or more reporters following you around to get that "exclusive" interview. A few more lotteries may work with you on setting up a trust or other partnership. You or your representative should contact the lottery for the details after you win.

You can remain anonymous if you do it correctly. Go to a bank trust department and set up an obscure trust to collect. The trustee will claim the prize, which you can temporarily assign as a bank trust officer.

This will keep your privacy, but the bank will be asked alot of questions about the owner of the trust, beneficiaries, etc. All of which answered would be a violation of privacy.

I think the "Trust for a better America" would be a good name.

you of course have a choice.. but i would stay anonymous... of course... cause if you dont then every family member in the world will want to be your best friend... people will be calling you to buy everything form a house to cars to just about anything.... I would then just donate to the homeless..
