Just to ask then, if the terms of reference is where you put you links etc, what is the difference between the terms of reference and my reference list on the last page? Is it just a difference between essays (references at the end) and reports (at the beginning)?

Terms of reference for a report is setting the scene of how the report was created. It simple terms it is a contract between all the stake-holders involved -

Sponsor:

Project Owner:

Project Manager:

Thnink about the background to the report, what are the objectives, what work is involved in getting to these objectives, who does the work, how often it is done, etc. What is the scope - what information do you need to complete the report, who is responsible for getting this information, etc.

Also think about a timetable for completion of the report - will you repeat this process regularly, etc?

Once you have these clearly stated you can move forward with prepraring the report and delivering it with a clear understanding of what you have to do and when you have to do it by.

It also helps if the sponsor asks for more work that wasn't included in the terms of reference.
