It all depends on if you're both are working or one is at home. It's old fashion to think that the woman should do all the housekeeping.
At this moment I am in waiting of my green card and so my husband is working all day and I am not (allowed). I don't mind to keep everything clean and do his laundry, make sure he has a great meal when he get home and whatnot is needed. He now is the only one providing money for the both of us, so I'll do my share. We still do groceries together.
When both working, I think you shouldn't look at each other, who is first to throw the towel in the washing machine, but just act upon it.
Keep communicating and express it when you feel you're doing all the work. You both are living there, you both want a clean house, eat when hungry and so it takes to to tango. No mom around to do it for you, it's called growing up and being independent.

In-house activity manager is the woman and outside of the home's for men. This is the natural division if we have to have a well managed home and a satisfied man equiped enough to deal with the outside world.
And believe me, both the jobs are equally full time and equally critical and important in order to keep a discipline in individual lives of parents and children but also in building up of an adorable society and broadly speaking a nation.

We share the washing-up.
She does the bank stuff.
He does all DIY stuff.
Cooking is shared.
She does the laundry (she don't trust him with the washing, too many reds and whites at the same time ;-))
She does all gardening, except mowing the lawn ... is a man's job.
He folds the socks, she does the ironing and the rest.
Shopping is shared or done together.
She buys the cards for special occasions (including mother-in-law's mother day card!)
She deals with all appointments and all things telephone.
He goes and pays the rent since she don't get on with the landlord.
He does his fair share of things.
She is not complaining :-)

In my house I do all the work in the house he does all the work outside the house. In some places it seems the woman gets the full brunt. She has to cart them to whatever activity it is they joined, run the errands, and still do the house. It's a hard knock life I tell you.
