Yoga has a great healing powers. But I want to ask that can yoga treats clinical depressive disorder like OCD. Beause I don't want to use antidepressants anymore, they are all crap, hell of side effects and very little benefits.

One of the great yoga guru claims that yoga can treat mental disorder totally.

HI, u r completely mistaken in antidepressants. u have wrong opinion. i can understand why: becoz it took time for u to show result. i have 7 yrs of work exp in psychiatry. so i can read ur feelings.

the thing is mind, rather technically brain, is the centre of problems like OCD( obsessive compulsive disorder). For this u have excellent treatment in India. The treating procedure is same throughout the world wherever u go. The only thing is all these issues consume time.

It requires 2 things from ur side to reap the actual benefits:
1. Give ample time to things to settle.
2. Use ur medication regularly and consult the doctor as per his/her instructions.

99% of the problem comes from irregular usage of medicines and not consulting the doctor as per the review dates.

so donot lose hope. U started well and consult ur doctor again, apologise him, and start ur medication again.
I am definete and sure that u will recover soon and u will realise what i've said.

Good luck.
Act smart.

Yoga is a breathing method with some religious over tone.

Breathing.

Good breathing will supply Oxygen to the brain which in turn will clear the mind.

Religion

Does not play much unless people are believer and are doing, Japps with Yoga, or saying, Ooohm at the minimum. Then yes.

It is mainly a mind set.

Yoga is a great idea and will help. But depending on the severity of your disorder you may require medication. Talk to your Doctor about meds to treat anxiety like ativan, or lorezepam instead of the antidepressants and see what the doc thinks.

Yoga treats the mind primarily. It relaxes it. When the mind is relaxed depression and anxiety vanish. However, one thing people do not realise is that yoga is not something purely physical. It goes hand in hand with good deeds. They are an inspeparable ingredient.

I was just reading all of the answers that people have left in regards to your questions and they are all good, so far. Yoga is a good way to relieve stress and clear your head, as far as OCD, Obsessive Control Disorder, anyone who knows others whom suffer with this or even have it themselves, knows that usually this is accompanied with depression and fear of failing in Life. They must have a structured Lifestyle and changes are extremely hard for them, all things have their place and if it gets out of wack, it sends them over the edge. It sounds like you have been around the bend on alot of your medications, but honestly if your Doctor ever gets you on the Correct Medication and Therapy which is a Must, hopefully things will turn around for you...Good Luck

I am single mum. I have been suffering for panic attacks for some 15 years now, though it was not until recently I understood what they were. They were progressively getting stronger and more frequent, stopping me from some days even leaving my house. I read this book and it all made perfect sense.

I am not saying I was not terrified of putting theory to action, I was more scared of that than the next attack! But I decided to view it as a game, one I had control of and could therefore not lose!

DO NOT expect yoga or new age fad to any more fore oer ocd than the beatles. Any kind of fitness helps and the music relaxes but at the momement we need our meds. Mine cost me my wife who blamed some of the side effects as my lack of affection towards her. Her daughter schocked me, my stepdaughter choose to stay with me. My my wife announced her leaving on my birthday any left our 3rd anniversary the exact day division of assets (she had none but I had out her through nursing which wouldn't count) !! years later my daughter lives aroind the corner.
