I have just adopted a 7 month mixed breed. He already understands to pee outside, but as soon as we come in he takes a poop right in front of the door. I have taken him out for differnt lengths of time from 5 minutes to an hour, but he still will poop in the entrance way. He seems to get easily distracted outside with all the noise and the cars, but it doesn't seem to bother him to pee outside with all the noise. Please help!!!

First you need to find out what mix of breeds your dog is. Believe it or not, different breeds are harder to train then others.
I had a mini dachshund and they are one of the hardest breeds of dogs to house break. Right now, for some reason your dog has associated pooping with indoors and peeing with outdoors. Take him out and leave him out until he poops. If it takes fifteen minutes or three hours you have to stick to this! Don't bring him in unless he has done his business outside. Once he goes give him lots of praise! Pets and treats and "good dog!" will work wonders! Do you have a dog crate? Or dog carrier? Dogs have a natural instinct to NOT poop or pee where they sleep. So every night you need to put him in the crate and use that as his bed. So when you leave the house to go shopping or what ever and you put him in there he won't poop all over your house. Then as soon as you get home take him out and he will go! There is also a spray you can buy, it stinks... But it is very worth it! It smells like ammonia (urine) and dogs like to mark their territory, so spray that in the yard where you want him to go. He will smell that urin smell already there and know the yard is the potty place. If none of that works, you may want to talk to your vet and see if there are any other tips they can give you.

Dog Only Poops Inside

2017-01-16 15:00:27 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

well first off, i will tell you that this is quite common in young pups. and i would suggest you clean the doorway so it doesnt smell like poop, or he will keep going there... when you take him out, try to take him on a walk, some dogs will only poop when on a walk. if you are back home and he still hasnt pooped, than take him back inside, if he poops in the doorway again, take the poop and put it outside where you want him to poop and clean the doorway again. keep it clean, and the next time you take him outside, show him the poop you placed outside, he should hopefully poop there, if not, than everytime he poops, take it outside and put it in the same place as the other one and keep the doorway clean to the eye and nose (if you know what i mean) if he just loves to randomly poop in the doorway for no reason still, try carrying him in and then blocking the doorway off, not many dogs will poop while they are being held and eventually let him walk in on his own again. if he stops to poop simply pick him up (quickly) and run him outside and put him down there to finish. he will eventually get it. good luck with your pup :-)

firstly, do not yell at him, tell him he is bad, scald him, rub his face in it or anything of this nature. dogs are smart, but they dont necessarily understand eveything we do. if u scald him, he will not asociate it with the place that he did it, he will associate it with doing the deed itself. this is very bad for the dogs mental & physical health.

there are drops u can buy from the pet store which attract a dog to toilet in the spot where u leave them. also, clean the spot totally where he has been pooing. you can spray a product called "piss off" on it which will totally eliminate any smell and make him not want to go there.

praise him overly and treat him when he goes in the right spot, even on walks, just anywhere thats not in the house. when he poos inside, take him outside to the exact place he should be going (if it is a backyard, take him to the same corner every time). leave him in that spot. if u catch him doing it, pick him up mid-poo and take him to the spot. let him finish his business there.(try turning ur back. some dogs will get embarrassed when u look at them and u dont want this) do not clean it right away. leave the poo there for a day so he can see it and smell it and will know where to go.

hope i could help!! this method has worked many times, myself included! =)

if you dog is create trained what you do is right after he eats take him out side if he dont go then put him in his create take him back outside a few minutes later. repeat this until he goes outside give him lots of prais when he does go so he knows this is the right thing to do. Dogs dont like to poop where they sleep as a general rule.

its also not a good idea for you just to leave food out for the dog to eat you have no control over his diet this way. You need to be in control of what goes in the front to control what comes out the back : )

Do you stay outside long enough with him? Stay longer in the morning, in the afternoon (when you come back form wherever you have been), and in the evening. Try do not feed him late at night. And if he poops at home say… bad dog ... and sit him by the poop for 5 min (they don't like to be where they poop) . And you know what … it worked with my dog.

Training will take awhile but be consistant. Limit their inside area and kept an eye on the pup. As soon as she starts to circle, tell her no, pick her up and take her outside until she finishes. I had a yorkie that would do the same thing until we finally stayed outside with her until she did it. We also gave her a treat outside when she did the deed--the vet stressed the treat should be given outside not inside. Eventually , she pees on command and poos on command. We will also consistant with our terms so she learned what each one meant. I even taught her to ring a bell when she has to go outside to do her business. In the beginning, I felt like all i was doing was training myself to ring the bell each and everytime we went outside--but in about a week--she learned how to do it. We also keep her feedings on a schedule so her output is on a schedule too.

Try taking him out on a leash and stay out there until he has pooped. The reason for the leash is it keeps him in sight so you know when he has pooped so you can praise him for doing so, it also keeps him from standing at the backdoor concentrating on trying to scratch his way back in.
