What does a fall in mean? How long do they usually last?

It means to form ranks. Everyone in a unit lines up in straight lines and by unit sub-division. If it is a company, four platoons are formed, there are then four rows of soldiers, with 11 in each row. The platoon leader gives the command and the troops line up facing him.

i don't know what you mean by "how long they usually last." until they finish whatever they're doing, i suppose.

fall in means to get in formation...normally or depending on the size of the platoon...there would be 4 ranks...everyone standing aligned...

It means come together. It last as long as they need your attention.
