I had a nervous breakdown just over three years ago. My nerves are still raw. Is there any hope? I don't want to go on medication, have done that before and that makes me feel worse.

I have changed my lifestyle...dramatically. That has helped. I fortunately no longer have to work. I am an extreme introvert. Being alone, off by myself is what makes me happy. I don't want to fix that for me that is good and healthy.
I avoid all situations that give me problems.(I learned this the hard way as I know some people would tell me to face what I have problems with...that is what gave me the breakdown in the first place). Thankyou for your answers.
Doc tried several medications.....I would rather feel like this than a zombie. I would like to take the one that take the edge off and then wear off. That would be good. But one of the big changes I have made is I moved across the country and no longer have a doc(much less one who knows what I have been through). I have tried drinking(am not a drinker) so gave up on that. I quit smoking during my breakdown(brillant,eh??) but have boughten a pack and they are in my jacket..haven't smoked one yet but I don't know what else to do.

My nervous breakdown if you can call it that. I was getting panic attacks several times a day and began having paranoid delusions and hallucinating. I could not leave the house and didn't eat. The day when it got to be too much was when I was so crippled with anxiety I couldn't move and was frequently vomiting. It was horrible I felt like I was dying and was trapped I couldn't do anything and was incredibly scared. You become so inside yourself your head doesn't stop running and you barely sleep and I was told I looked extremely ill as well as talking about an organization who were tracking my movements which was a bit strange. I don't really know how it happened it just did after not being treated for my anxiety all got too much I guess. I got better after going to hospital for a month and being put on medication and receiving counselling. I still get anxious but a lot easier to deal with and no psychosis symptoms.

Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

It sounds like you're doing good as you were able to quit smoking. Build confidence in yourself and don't depend on other's opinions of you. Read books that deal with the stresses you've and look into spiritual aspects of faith seeking healing that way. I think being nervous is a personal trait that may never go away as I'm the nervous. I think it's due to upbringing too if you've grown up in a fairly disfunctional home with not a lot of structure and love. I've found a church family can make up for that lack in my life.

Thank God I have never had this problem but I have a good friend who is going through it, she went through several medicines and lifestyle changes before her Nerves got better but YES they can improve. Try doing things that make you happy and try to distance yourself from Negative individuals. Stay active, do not close yourself off. My friend went through times were she did not even want to leave the house, once she got on the "right" medicine and friends and family kept her active, she improved greatly. I wish you the best...

A big Yes. Of course u can get normal. You got to do two important things.
1. Keep your mind happy and involve in the work u love the most.
2. Do physiotherapic excersises regularly on a day to day basis
Believe me u will see a remarkable improvement in two to three months

yes, just make sure that you are always happy. make sure that you stay away from the things that make you nervous. and tell people to treat you right, because afterall nervous breakdowns are serious, and you dont want to get another one. Rest alot when you can, and by rest i am meaning, like go get back massages and stuff, or get your nails or hair done, those are all relaxing, and can keep your mind off of things that will make you feel nervous. WoW, sorry to hear that, but how about all natural pills for anxiety, and exercise always helps. My mom had a nervous breakdown, so some days she is OK, some days not. But over all, she is OK and so will you be. Best wishes.
