30 pounds in 5 months is hard but doable.
Your goal should be to boost your metabolism. The higher your metabolism, the more calories your body burns through out the day. There are no short cut to weight loss. It requires time, persistence and hard work. If you want to lose weight safely and effectively, I outline the some general tips.
1. Exercise (resistance training): Lifting weights can add muscle to your body. Your metabolism is highly correlated with how much muscles that you have. Your muscle is where fat is being burned.
Basically, the more muscles that you have, the higher your metabolism, the more calories that you can burn even when you are sleeping. That is why 255-pound bodybuilder can eat more than 5,000 calories a day because of the amount of muscles that they have. They need to eat a lot just to maintain their muscle. This is a very important part of a weight loss program.
Here are some exercises that will give you the best bang for your time.
Squat, Dead lift, lunges, Military press, Push-up, Bench Press, Lat Pull Down, Pull-up, Row, etc. Focus in multi-joint movement to involve more muscles. The more muscle groups that you can incorporate the better.
2. Aerobic training: One way to boost your metabolism so that you are burning more calories is through interval training. Interval training consists of alternating between high intensity and low intensity training. For example, jog for 2 minutes to 30-second sprint. Repeat for 20 minutes. It is tough but highly effective.
Interval training is much more effective that steady state cardio e.i. 30 minutes running with the same speed. Interval training allows you to burn more calories while reducing your time.
3. Supportive Eating: Eating smaller meals through out the day can help boost your metabolism. Eating smaller meals every 3 hours helps fuel your body. Think about it for a second. I am sure that you know someone who eats all the time and yet are lean and you probably know someone who eats very little and yet the person is fat.
What should you eat? In every meal, you should attempt to eat lean protein, starchy carbs, and fibrous carbs.
Lean protein such as chicken, white eggs, turkey, soy, lean meat, fish, tuna, salmon, etc.
Starchy carbs such as oatmeal, brown rice, red potatoes, yams, etc.
Fibrous carbs such as fruits and vegetables.
These tips alone can help you a lot of you follow my guidelines. Remember, losing weight too fast will not be a permanent weight loss. Take your time and commit to eating better and exercising and you will eventually lose that weight.
Quick tips: Limit your sugar, saturated fat, and hydrogenated fat. Drink plenty of water.
Good luck

Try to eat healthy; don't give into late night snack cravings: eating late results in putting on weight. Also, if you're not a big fan of exercise, try out some fun workouts. Jogging is not the only form of exercise. Try taking a kickboxing or yoga class, or swim at an indoor pool. Take up a new sport, like raquetball, or better yet, dancing (then you can show off your moves on the big day!). The most important thing of all: don't give up and decide that since you added a pound or two due to that party with the amazing food, you should just quit now and indulge in a ton of sweets because there's no use trying to continue. Even if you've been set back a little, every day is a new day, and that should just give you more motivation to work harder, and maybe do that extra set of lunges around the gym before your workout.
Congratulations on the engagement and good luck with the weight loss!

Yes, it's totally possible. They say you can "safely" lose 10 lbs a month. As I'm sure you know, excercize and diet. Yep, easier said than done. My wedding is March 3 and I'm going through the same thing, plus I stay home and cook three times a day for my fiance. Heres what is working for me. I threw out all the really bad stuff, like mayonaise. I cut out cheese and sourcream. Then I bought light bread, which comes in wheat and white and is only 40 calories a slice. "I can't believe it's not butter" has a spray that is no calories, and it's ok, better than dry toast. I get the low fat version of everything, skim milk, etc. I'm very passionate about food, so dont think I did all this lightly, but it is for a very special day, and I can honestly say I've gotten used to it. I excercise too, but not as much as is recomended, which I'm sure would work faster, but I'm seeing good results. I just do a set of target excercises, like side bends and crunches for my waist, leg lifts and butt excercises, arm circles. My body is starting to look like a sculpture (not any exotic goddess type thing, but I see what shape I am creating) so it is very rewarding. It is so hard to get started but once you see your progress and start to feel thinner& sexier, you really get in to it. Also, the little things really do add up. Like take the stairs instead of elevator, cut some calories here and there. I got some three pound each leg weights and wear them all day while I cook & clean. Every where you look there is some little thing that will help. Also, if you get an excercize partner to encourage you, or just compare notes over the phone whatever, a friend who is also trying hard you can help each other. I could tell you some good fast results excercises too, if you want message me. Congratulations on your wedding.

Don't do the Special K diet - I did it before my wedding, and lost 15 pounds in 4 months (yippee!), but the lack of exercise still left me with flabby arms for a strapless dress (booo). Plus, the 15 pounds came back within 8 months when I returned to my normal eating habits.
I took off the weight for the second time using diet and exercise, and imputting my calorie intake and burn on the SparkPeople website to keep myself accountable (link below - free to use after registration). The exercise was the key. I lost 20 pounds in 4 months. When I was at the same number of pounds as I was for my wedding, I was an entire dress size less the second time around, and no sagging skin around the tricep area.
It does not have to be heavy cardio right now - just getting out and moving more than you currently do is a good start. You can start by walking, then build intensity. You have enough time to start slowly and build up, and this is the best way to make sure you will STAY on track.
If you are not consistant about diet and exercise - get your bridesmaids involved! Have them meet you for sensible lunches. Have them go to the gym with you - or meet you in the park for a walk or a run. If they live far away, ask them to pester you about whether you are staying on track. You will need support in the coming months... Good LUCK!

My friend,
firstly congratulations on your wedding.
Now, about losing the weight. Eat small meals, so that your stomach doesn't have too much to work on at a time and so you are never starving for food. (Starving people end up putting on more weight than if they didn't deprive themselves of the food).
Everyday do some exercise. Walking for a good 45minutes to 1 hour is great if you don't have the time for cardio. Cycling and aerobics are wonderful too.
I do aerobics, and my favorite is the home vcd's of Jane Fonda (Abs, Buns and Thighs as well as 'High Impact - Complete Workout') so buy them and get working! They are really fun, less expensive, and you don't need to force yourself to the gym.
Also, try eating more white meats and no red meats for a while. Fish is great, and rich in protein. It won't let you put on much weight.
Whatever you do, don't deprive yourself of food. Have the stuff you like once in a week and try to make the portions smaller.
Sauna belts, I would suggest, should be avoided. (It's electric, and it could damage internal organs) Instead of waisting your time with silly gadgets take up exercise 6 times a week seriously. If you want sauna and steam, go to a health center for one. Don't use the belt.
Good luck my friend, and god bless you.

Yes! I've lost about 10kg in few weeks.
1. dont eat any kind of snacks, not even try to substitute with low fat cookies, etc. If you have to, eat fruits as your snack, but limit the amount. An apple a day keep the doctor away, but 12 dozen an hour will bring the doctor on your way.
2. choose carbohydrates with fibre, i.e: unpolished brown rice instead of pasta. this will make your stomach "full" for longer time.
3. drink plain water only; no coke, no coffe, no milk shake, just plain water.
4. prepare the wedding by yourself as much as you can; the activities, the fun, the anticipation (an maybe the stress as well) will make it easier to you to forget about food & helps you burn the fat.
5. try to take public transportation or bicycle or walk, instead of driving a car.
6. clean the house, prepare it for long distance relatives who'll need accomodation for your wedding. it helps you to save the cost too :p
7. dont hung around with your pals for the time being; people tends to eat & drink unnecessarily when they are "hung around" with friends. Keep yourself busy, ask them to help you if they dont mind.
8. dont take unnecessary leave from your job; work as usual, save the annual leave for the honeymoon.
9. if you still have spare time & energy, do some exercise; join the aerobic class, gym, etc
Good luck

1-2 lbs a week is reasonable, so you can do this!
A pound is 3500 calories, so 2 lbs is 7000. Sounds like a lot to cut in a week, right?
Nope! You can increase your activity level; that counts toward the 7000. If you got in a good treadmill workout or elliptical workout, you could burn 600 a day. That's 3000-4200 a week right there. That and some sensible (SENSIBLE) dieting should get you there.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!
