In my bathroom I have:
-electric toothbrush
-electric shaver
-hair trimmer
All battery powered by DC motors.
In my car:
- starter motor
- power seats, windows, door locks, trunk release
- radiator fan
- heating/air conditioning fan
- tape deck, CD deck
- windshield wipers
- ABS high pressure pump
and there are probably more, all powered by DC motors.
The computer I am typing this on has
- two cooling fans
- hard drive
- CD drive
- floppy drive
all using DC motors.
The condenser and evaporator fans in my refrigerator are powered by DC motors.
The old cassette deck on my audio system has 3 motors (one for each spindle, plus the capstan).
Battery-powered drill and screwdriver in the toolbox.

I could probably go on... you get the idea. They are everywhere, certainly in battery-powered equipment but also in some appliances that plug into the wall.

We have them because they are cheap, efficient and adaptable to many different sizes and power capabilities.

DC motors are used wherever an applicance needs to be battery operated.

it would be hard to drive down the road with your air conditioner plugged into electric[ a. c.]
