Why is it so expensive to fly on a Sunday then on a Monday. I have looked at fares from London Heathrow to Los Angeles International for a Sunday and Monday and the difference can be £300 + more to tavel on Sunday.

I have checked out the fares with various Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways. I have even checked out fares from Expedia and Thomas Cook and they seem more pricey then booking direct with the airline.

Any one know why? I find it easier to go on Sundays but Monday are cheaper.

Cheers!

the airlines have a policy of "demand-led"pricing. it basically increases the fares at popular times so they can reduce the fares at quiet times.

basically, every business person wishes to travel on a Sunday - so they can be at their place of business fresh on a Monday morning. Hence - Sunday fares are the most expensive.

The airlines want to encourage people to travel at the quieter times - so the discount the fares mid week when there is less demand.

As the number of flights is limited due to lack of airport capacity - it makes good commercial sense to use price as a way of controlling demand.
