It has different levels. I know people who call me by my nationality instead of saying my name and it really annoys the hell out of me. I think it's nasty. However, it wouldn't be racist. Calling an Indian and Indian is not racist. Attacking somebody because of their race or leaving somebody out because of their race is racist. By race I also mean nationality. When somebody calls me by a famous food/dish from my country, I find it very amusing though!!! Strange, but I think people have personal likes and dislikes. The best thing is not to crack any race-type jokes in front of a person who is different from you unless you know that person well enough to tell what ticks him/her off.

It depends on how you look at it. I find that the comparisons between the races, and their little differences, is amusing and a real way to bring people together. However, when these are pointed out, you run the risk of being racist if someone takes offence.
So, in conclusion, the racism that is referenced on a daily basis is nothing serious, just name calling and people being sensitive.
Prejudice on the other hand is serious and can be damaging. I think there is a massive difference between the two.

Oooh because there was a lot of discussion about Sasha Baron Cohen's recent movie, because it appeared he was taking the mick but people weren't sure if this was techiqally racism.
Personally I believe racism is the discrinimation and hate against anyone because of their skin colour or religion or even discrimination against the country they were born in. But I'm in two minds about whether mimicking other cultures is racism. If a white man 'blakced' it up (like those mintrels in 60's programmes) then that's considered racism, but if it's for comedy like Cohen's movie...I dunno, it's a grey area and no pun intended, it's not a black and white issue (ie there can be many levels of racism and it isn't clear-cut)

Racism isn't easily defined. If a person, ethnic minority or not, perceives a comment or action to be racist then it is racist. This means that essentially we can all be racist in thought, word or deed without meaning to be. You are right it is very complex and complicated. There are no easy answers because we all perceive different things in different ways. tha's what makes us human.

I think that it's a word that gets thrown around a lot when people make jokes about people from different cultures.
Racial discrimination is a big problem, too. But I guess any kind of discrimination is.
It's funny how people think they are better than people based on the colour of their skin.
Not funny-ha-ha.
Funny-farm funny.
If you know whta I mean..

Just about everything is racist nowadays according to the politically correct morons but they are the real racists because they are constantly making an issue out of race when there is often no need to.

Good question. Racism is abuse that singles out a trait related to a race/religion or creed and then uses that trait to demean it. The hatred of other races.

Racism is not letting people be themslves...it's trying to force another culture on someone....I suppose it's fundamental bullying and that originates from fear and inadequacies.
