It depends what image you want to project, what you feel comfortable in, and what you feel confident in wearing.
Following fashion is expensive and overrated - it is better to have your own style than be fashionable, and pick and choose what you want to wear each season rather than looking like everyone else and wasting money on clothes you won't wear in 6 months time.
Look at what suits your body shape, what colours suit you, and work out a wardrobe that matches the things that you do in your life.
Also, remember that accessories make all the difference to an outfit. I'm lucky because I work in media and can wear jeans and trainers to work, but if I have a party straight after I just take in a pair of heels and a cute bag it looks completely different.
Why not go shopping with some friends and all pick out clothes for each other - you might end up trying on some outfits that you wouldn't go anywhere near by yourself, but actually look really good.

I wear what i want when i want and always jazz outfits up with accessories,
