"you have to find what motivates him & start there. Some people are not self starters & it appears that they lack of enthusiam when in reality they really do have enthusiam. They just don't show it."

Yes, this makes sense in its own right. problem is, nothing seems to motivate him off to do anything. This is rather weird, as this issue bagan to take place at once, out of nowhere! That is to say, this is the first time this has ever happened. All the stranger is the case that enthusiasm was something that had never been missing. There always seemed to be so many reasons to do things so as to get his wishes to be carried out. But now, suddenly everything seems lackluster...

Sometimes a person realizes a certain aspect of complexity in the world, and can't get over it enough to find anything interesting that humanity has to offer. A "mid-life" crisis, for instance, sometimes occurs when a person realizes that they can never be young again, and that life is extraordinarily fragile.

These periods can be very difficult to understand because what may be completely dammable about existence to one person is foolishness to another. In my experience, it's best not to try to argue with a mind temporarily rooted (although possibly not completely visibly) in philosophical negativity. I would try to find the source, and then try to steer a person in a completely different sphere of life with my words.

For instance, if someone is hung up on the perceived superficiality of the world (and thus cannot possibly be made to participate), I would only talk to them about things like the wonders of nature and brilliance of fine artists. Create fervor for something that could not possibly fit into the problem they're having...that is...if they're having this kind of problem.

Look at the rest of his life and what he is doing with it. Maybe the lack is a sign of being just plain tired from overwork, overstress. Do you see any signs of depression along with this? Look outside the box and you will find the clues.

What do you say to him? "I wish you would have more enthusiasm about "............", it makes me sad to see you this way. Is there anything I can do to help you?"...it's a start...

See a therapist you might be depressed. Life is too short to drag along on the back of a bike. You gotta do some peddling and yelling.
