Do they have any idea what the Soviet Union was like before we eliminated it? German? Facist Italy? Saddam's Iraq? Iran?

NO

They think that because it makes them look like victims.
Here liberals love that line because liberals love being the victim.

It's much like the young kids today, who see the Anarchy symbol spray-painted on the side of an overpass, then see this same symbol on their friends books at school and adopt it as "cool." Do they understand the true meaning behind such a symbol? Not really, it just means you get to hate more things, and gripe about them in the mean time. That is usually the extent of a 15 year olds understanding of anarchy. Which unfortunately, is also about the same understanding that most adults have of politics these days. They hear some person on TV spewing some party approved political agenda at them, and take it as fact and gospel truth. Not only that but they will argue with you on the chances of the information being fact, or anywhere near a half-truth. Usually the argument is based on the character of the news reporter, whom they have never met nor know anything about this person's personal life. Or their argument stems off of every political show they've ever watched, and every book they've ever read on rush limbaugh. It's sad really to know that quite a few of our voters are these very same people, even more sad is they won't admit it to themselves, or anyone else.

Probably not. And they also do not seem to see any correlation between the need for more officers on the street and immorality.

I do not want to see our nation become a police state, but if the law becomes the morals of our nation, a police state is what we will become.

One of the blessings and curses of being born and living in America is that things are so great for us, that we are truly ignorant of vicious things like police state and many other conditions that cause individual suffering.

It's what I like to call blissfully ignorant and unaware.

no they don't however our liberties are sure not what they used to be. every time congress passes a new law more people become prisoners, Bush is only utalizing Nixon's old tactics employed during the Viet Nam war.

What we need to remeber is you can not legislate morals.

Yes. It's warrantless searches, warrantless wiretaps, the authority to invade your home at any time. It includes the suspension of habeas corpus, it allows detention for an unlimited time without charges.

It involves the control of media so that Comcast can't send al-arabiya to your house, let alone BBC news.

It usually includes a secret police force that is answerable to no one but the President.

How'm I doing?

some people just read newspapers and watch news programmes and believe what they read and see when most of it is rubbish, if they did live in a police state they would soon realise the difference

Sure we do ...we saw it in TV. I live in Houston and am not really concerned about a police state around here..the police here can't keep up with what they already have to do...

They don't have a clue... If we had a police state, guess what? Those suckers wouldn't be able to say all these things.
So, next time you hear them say "we live in a police state", just smile. Ignorance shows, just like breeding.

I doubt it, but i think it is more of an attempt to get people's attention. Whining, "Oh the Adminstration is taking away our rights" is not gonna get the same attention as "BUSH IS CREATING A POLICE STATE".

I could be incredibly idealized, but I would look at the latter.

hmm lets see.....
deep seeded paranoia, and people turning their neighbors in for rewards(sound familiar)?

perceived threat always within the country's own borders.(sound familiar?)

always having to have you citizenship papers available at all times when asked to produce them(sound familiar? no?? It will!)

Laws governing moral actions(sound familiar?)

Silence of dissent and protesting. (sound familiar?)

increased budget for military and domestic spying(sound familiar?)

nearly limitless power of law enforcement(getting more familiar!)

rampant government corrupting(DUUUUUH!)

and the beliefs that put all fascist police states into power...
"If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear!"

a police state, is nothing more then the situation, of a nation's warlike condition of government, not ending, because the acts they make during war is made permanent.

the time to complain about your rights being diminished, isn't when you personally experience the effect, but when you see the possibility of it happening. by the time you experience it, it is far too late to complain!@
we don't learn history in schools, so we can wait till something occurs to do something about it, we learn history to prevent it from reoccurring!
