The mass Crunched down into it's most solid shape, a circle like shape. It's shape which is described as "bulging at the equator, and flattens at the poles" [slightly] is called an oblate spheroid.

The centripetal force of the earth causes this shape. Because of its rotation, the masses at the center tend to be pulled away.
