I was in England in the summer of 1994 and it was so different when I went back in 1998 and then lately when I went there in 2004 , it seemed so much like the U.S. that I dont know if was just me or if the English seemed so much more like Americans. It seemed that England had lost a lot of its charm and innocence and distinctivenss in their people. Thanks for your comments.

Depends where you visit. Many places are not all that much different to look at in the rural areas. But many people have changed because of new technology, Internet, mobile phones, Ipods etc. There is an increasing expectation for things to be instant, the standard of services to be much higher. There's more choice for the customer, on-line banking, online shopping, out of town shopping etc. Is it a good thing? Depends what you like? Without the Internet, I would not be answering this question and would not have just put away my on-line shopping order delivered straight into my house.

I still think I would rather live here than anywhere else in the world, if we had perfection - whose perfection would that be and then what would we moan about?

We've lost the plot:

- Reality TV and celebrity obsession have sapped our souls and ruined genuine culture
- Political correctness is undermining our sense of proportion
- Global terrorism has increased people's prejudice and intolerance
- Materialism is causing frustration and greed in an ever technological society.

I want to move to a cave somewhere on a desert island.

Hi if you want my opinion Britain has gone completely down hill over the last 50 years, first they allow the flood gates open to other nationalities, who take our jobs and houses, then shout racist in OUR COUNTRY, then Politicians raise all taxes, out of proportion, so it lowers our standards, makes us out of work, and homeless on the rise. Take us into wars that our not our business, and then have the cheek to cut our FORCES,, and cut back our NAVY. till everybody walks over us. Then expect everyone to act civilised. instead its a Country at war within, riots is just a slip of a thing, It will get a lot worse, if GOVERNMENT don't get their finger out and do something good for the Country, instead of throwing us to the wolves.

We have been over run by chavs, immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Indigenous British are not allowed a voice in our own country anymore for fear of upsetting Muslims and the like...though they can demand and get privileges and can say what they like about us... Prices for anything are sky high, the EU is drowning us in red tape and Brits are leaving the country at the rate of approx 1000 a week...

Thank you Tony Bliar and co for ruining our once proud nation...
