Before you create a new group, have a long look at Yahoo Groups. I'm betting you will find there already are such groups.
But when you say "young men and women," I gather you want to include a social aspect, and meeting face to face. For that, the general Internet is less the place than your local Chamber of Commerce or perhaps the local issues bulletin boards of various Internet sites.
For example, in Santa Cruz, that would be Cruzio.com. Whichever local server has the most in social service bulletin boards and links.
