Having worked and lived there I can highly recommend it- its one of my most favourite places on earth! Yes, it can be pricey-but "normal" people work and live there as well as the rich and famous so you can stay and eat out cheaply-if you want to! Hotel de Paris with its fabulous sliding roof that lets you eat under the stars and Jimmyz nightclub are great places to spend some serious £ not to mention Cafe de Paris for people watching!
Its still pretty old school,as in men pay for everything (or at least appear to) so be aware of that-Beausoleil,which is next door-has many hotels and restaurants that are far cheaper but within walking distance of everything in Monaco so is an option if you want to keep costs down.

Yes! Monaco is GORGEOUS... As is the rest of the Cote d'Azur
It is also extremely expensive, particularly if you're intending to stay or eat there (or set foot in any of the casinos!).

If you aren't a millionaire, it might be betetr to stay just outside Monaco and travel in -you'll never forget the first time you walk out of the station and se the whole of Monaco clinging like a lizard to the sheer hillside below you.

If you're after somewhere a little more secluded, but within travelling distance of Monaco, I can't recommend the tiny village of Eze highly enough. It sprawls from the clean blue sea and beaches at the base of a mountain, up a winding road through the fragrant bushes to the first stage (where there are at least two VERY good perfumeries which smell wonderful). There're soem lovely hotels at this point, but if you want real luxury, you'll have to walk up the final stage which is very steep and can't be driven at all. It's well worth the climb - it's a different world, full of fabulous views, winding sloped passageways and alleys, the scent of lavender drifting over from the rest of Provence, wonderful little creperies and the best view in the world from the top of the alpine garden, bathed in the golden sun.

Ah, wish I was back there already.

But Cote d'Azur in general, definitely!

Well yes the choice is excellent however as others have indicated the price can be very expensive we go to the South of France but tend to say in the smaller local villages and travel by bus or train.
The last we stayed in a place Biot the main train line was a short walk and for 4 of us cost only 19 Euros’ to travel there and back to Monty Carlo the trains are very clean and fast.
Also the local buses travel about 10 Kilometres for about 1 Euro each.
I suggest sleeping out side Monty Carlo and travel in when you need to, there are many places worth a visit, Nice, St Tropaz, Grimond.
I hope you enjoy your self
