alot of people do. its our destiny until we do something to get away from the humdrum life of a 9 to 5 situation.

used to, that is how I found Yahoo Answers. Some of the people were cool, but noone really talked because the "supervisors" all worked in the same area. Got a new job that was cool, then about a week into that I got moved to a place that is even worse than the first and there will be no Y!Answers there :(

I must say in the job I am lucky, both my colleagues who I work with closely are good fun, and it really helps. But I have had my fair share of the boring colleagues, I found the trick was to find something I had in common with them, and make them open up, not interrogating them, but asking them questions to draw them out. Even if it was something small like a mutual love of cats etc, it worked. I also found giving people compliments is a great conversation starter, for example "Oh I love your dress/shirt/ etc, the colour is great on you, have you been hitting the sales??" and then go from there, there are loads of mundane questions you can ask about one item of clothing!!!! It was kind of a personal challenge to make my job more interesting, and it did kill time!

Well, I guess that is what they are there for. Personally I dont socialise often with the work people for that reason ... nice enough people, but socially not my type.
As for looking for another job. I found that having an interview once a year actually made me feel better about the hum-drum way of things. Many offices are the same, the majority dont enjoy their time at work.

John is my friend and he works in our accounting department. And this is what John has to say:
“I am quite an out going person. I socialize and all that. I am fun to be around. But wait until I get to work. I work. I don’t play around making noise and behaving like a monkey or a school kid. I value my job and I love it. I do it diligently without disturbing other co-workers and they do theirs without disturbing me. We get along well. We wait until after work or fun day to joke about. In fact there are 3 things that we don’t talk about at work: Sex, Politics and Religion. Everyone claims to know more than the other person.
If you have ever had a business and it didn’t do well because of people who take it as a social club or fun club you’ll understand what I am talking about. I have worked for companies that had more clowns and those companies have closed down. Those people usually bring arguments, dispute and disagreement among people. I have three mouths to feed and I can’t afford to loose my job. What is there to talk about except my job? If there is something you need to talk about, why not wait until lunch break? The truth is, we are one happy family”
In that company, there is a graphic studio set far aside and that’s where I work. Unlike John’s, our place is a mad house but we manage to get the job done. I guess it’s that way because of the nature of our work and because my work mates are my school mates. But the moment we get a new comer who doesn’t clown around we’d conform to John’s world because that’s what the boss would want. But still, we would get the job done. After all, that’s a small price to pay. I too have three mouths to feed and I respect my job. Without it, my world will crumble.
If I had a company, I will hire people like John & Recruiter

Bless you, winelover,
I have had similar, but my last contract had me working amongst a Morris dancer, fellow musicians looning around at lunchtime, a poet who would recite his nonesense, the silly waistcoat competition, the silly little radio-controlled helicopter, delivering floppy discs from A to B, and much else.
This, by the way, in an office looking after comms. stuff for the RAF.
Such places exist - perhaps you are in the wrong one ?
All the best,
Bob

I work between two different locations. One has lovely people and a great friendly atmosphere. The other is much more boring! However, at least I get to spend time at both. One girl has OCD and invades my personal space - she's just strange. She coughs and sneezes (in my personal space) without covering her mouth/nose - she's pretty gross really!

Yeah me too, I would love to have a normal conversation, like not about work. No one really likes me at work, suppose its because i'm the odd one out, the one that...well don't really give a fu*k. None of them even go on the internet unless its work related. Answers kind of keeps me 'a bit' sane.

I am in exactly the same boat. i work with people that are like the nerdy kids from school, i think there are only 2 of us that are normal. it drives me nuts that they are quiet and when they do talk its normally geeky stuff about star trek or something equally boring.
