natural resources are very vital for the survival of human race. forexample water, oil, minerals are unevenly distributed through out the world. just by being a national of a particular country or a resident of a particular region one doesnt become the sole possessor of the natural resource of that particular region. there has to be an effective way by which the mother natures gift is distributed among the human race with out any barrier in the form of nationality, religion or race. only then can the human race move forward en mass

I am in agreement with your statement. However, it is utopian given the plain fact that we have not reached that level of civilization to ponder sane and rational solutions to the need of humanity.

There's a lot of it that I would have no need for. Government should ensure that we all benefit from the natural resources. Those who work to extract or gather the products should naturally benefit most. It really does depend what the thing is though. Water should be a right, equal to air. One of the things I like about Scotland is our freedom to roam. If I like somewhere, I can go there with only a few limits (e.g. private gardens). There's nothing worse than some snob who carves off some chunk of the land and puts up "Private Keep Out" signs.

Forget about sharing between nations and even within India you can not share between 2 states. If TN, Kerala, AP and Karnataka can share the surplus water alone, i can say that you can feed the entire Asia.

In short, every state does not want to give up it's autonomy and control over it's borders and resources. Nobody has control over no one. Still it continues to function as one nation.

The only way to do it is by getting greed out of the picture. Today natural resources are being consumed on a greed-basis rather than need-basis. The lure of gold can make one man kill another but not the hunger of bread. It is greed that drives one person to snatch other's shares not need. Give up greed and you find the stockmarket falling into pieces. Big corporate houses will have to close shop. No greed for Levis and Coke. No iPod. So, the point is where we draw the line. The only lines we have drawn so far have been on paper. We have to know where to stop. We also have to know where we are headed to know whether we are progressing or not. In the name of mankind rivers have gone dry, mountains have been flattened and climate change has been triggered. Mankind itself is almost reaching a full circle. Tooth extraction has become easier but breathing has become difficult. In the name of progress and development we keep telling each other lies of a Perfect Tommorrow and keep working towards it. The Perfect Tommorrow holds relevance for each one of us. We also realise its relevance in each other and maybe that is the basis of political bonding.
Water, oil, minerals are all resources wars are being fought over. Every side has their own story. But the bane is on the hapless mass of the human race. The so called 'poor' who are trapped in a war being fought over them. South america, Africa and Asia are all battlezones where guns and bombs are blazing perenially. When Peace and PEPSI arrive together one tends to question the credibility of Peace. How can it come with PEPSI, a product that wastes pure water six times its volume in its very manufacture alone? Is it justifiable usage of natural resource? Especially when ground water availability has decreased dramatically. Where it hasnt decreased it is being polluted by effluents from industry atop. Natural resources are being wasted not in this external polluting agentlike manner of Industry but also in its very day to day existence Industry thrives by manipulating naturally available raw materials into complex compositions to make a wide range of lifestyle products. In most cases the process is irreversible. We cannot put the hills back with the cars we made out of them. The total consumption of industry and cities that run these industries is much more than the per person consumption of these regions put together. City and industry are failed experiments of lifestyle. The wastage it incurs is much more than the benefits. More importantly, the damage it does is devastating. For the human race to move forward it will have to accept itself as an important part of the eco-system we live in. Technology is aiding us to achieve all that our mythological heroes could. But that is all it is doing. At the end we all survive on food, air and water which are all freely available on natural resources. Any golf course is certainly food producing land and therefore being mis-used and its the same for a weapons testing centre. Indian farmers who have been affected by Pokhran and Chandipur know the connection best. Ports again are irreversible damge to coastlines and aqauatic life. Fishermen who are an integral part to the human food chain have to pack their sails and leave.

The number of ports and sailors keeps rising as more and more mountains are ripped apart to make more and more complex alloys that can build a fleet of the lightest fighter planes with the fastest engines to carry the heaviest bombs; and sprawling warships to carry them to far off nations; then bombard them till they surrender their lives in order to gain control over their governments; establish friendship with the people and buy oil from them to fly their fighter planes and cars back home...

You are talking of Utopia. it will never happen till perhaps there is a neuclear holocaust and the survival of mankind as a species is at stake unless the resources are shared.
