Most of the folks from the USA think the world stops at the border, anyway. There's not much out here that you folks would be interested in so go ahead.....American works for me.
Gotta change my world map now....let's see......ok, there's America and we'll call all the other countries RWH (Rest of the Western Hemisphere).......Done!

America is comprised of a north and a south; North America and South America. The U.S.A. is the United States OF America. It cannot be OF America, if it IS America. ANY American country from Brazil to Canada is OF America, but no country in America IS America... the U.S. or any other country.

The united states of america is the name given to the whole of north america. the countries in south america are clearly not important enough to be included or acknowledged in the "united" or even "america" part of the name.
man i live in australia and i seem to know more about it then you. i sugguest looking in an atlas for clearification you might even learn a little bit about your own country like where it is in the world for example. if u don't know where Australia is either you can look it up there too. it s tiny country in the southern hemisphere (thats down the bottom)
